Hi,

I’m wanting to change the oil on my F10 m5 as an interim change. The dealer shows Shell 0w30 on the last service invoice.

I wanted to keep the same oil as the car is under extended warranty.

Struggling in finding a matching oil.

Nearest I can find is below:

https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/shell-helix-ultra-e...

https://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-and-...

Ideally I would like to be able to buy it tomorrow or Monday.

Any help appreciated.

My F90 (2x) is Castrol and my F10 was (I am 99.9%) was too. 0w30.

Surprised to see Shell used.

In UK climate the difference between 0W and 5W is the square root of naff-all. Just make sure you get something of decent quality that has the right BMW spec' in the small print.

So either Castrol 5w30 or 0w30 would be fine with LL04 spec?

With the Shell I’m not quite as sure. There seems to be a fair few variants,

If my engine were to obliterate itself would having Castrol over Shell be an issue and 5 instead of 0? I.e 4k ago they put Shell in it

I have the same car and it recommends Castrol - even has it on the oil filler cap.

I have just completed an interim service on our X5M ( same engine ) and used Castrol Edge 0w-30 LL which is LL-04 spec. Have also used millers nanodrive 5w-30 in the past which is also LL-04 spec, I just normally browse Opie oil by spec then make a selection. Be aware that the OEM oil filter has a M badge on it, I make sure I use OEM, as like you i’m still under extended warranty.

Not on my filler it doesn’t.

Many thanks all. Bought a genuine filter and the Castrol 0w30.
