I know people say the Comp is the M2 to get but they’re a bit more expensive. Any massive issues they have? Any cases where the warranty saved you thousands?

Coming from what has been an exemplary 428i Gran Coupé for four years I’m used to having no, or few issues. Please regale me with your great times and terrible times.

Are you asking the question because you’re considering the two cars?

IMO, the OG M2 LCI is the best of the bunch.

The N55 engine is, in my opinion, the best turbo charged engine BMW have produced. The B58 is great but the N55 sounds better, and has better throttle response in my experience.

But personally, I’d be in a 440i with upgraded LCAs from an M4 and Birds Auto suspension. You’ll have 4 series runnings costs which drives as well/better than an M4.

A 440i is also on the radar. And what's LCA's?

As above, lower control arms.

The challenge I had years ago when looking at a 6 cylinder when I owned a 320d, was that I was paying a lot more for the better engine, when the rest of the car was the same.

320d sold for 14k and a 340i at the time was 24k.

I ended up in a B9 S5 because is felt significantly more special inside.

Just sold my 340i, as you probably know (on a different forum under a different name) and it was a fantastic vehicle, but I don’t think the 6 cylinder would offer you enough over your 428i.

Having seen your journey with your 428i, I personally think you’d benefit more from a G20 330i - the overall package is much better in every way, and you’ve never struck me as a hardcore petrolhead who will appreciate a 6 cylinder just because it has more cylinders.

The G20 is a REALLY good platform with excellent suspension as standard, excellent options in M Sport trim, fantastic steering and really economical in the 2L petrol.

Plus it’ll cost you similar money to a good 2/440i in the F series platform.

Everyone says the comp is the one to get.

IMHO the OG is the one to get.

There are a few reasons, that I think re quite personal, but might be of use.
Firstly sound, the OG sounds epic when driving it, the Comp sounds odd.
Seats, the Comp interior looks great but I found the seats quite uncomfortable, but that might be because I had spent 7 years driving an M140 with essentially the same seats as the M2.

Don’t get me wrong the Comp is a great car, but feels more like an M4 it’s more serious, it looses some of the charm of the OG.

The thing that made me pick OG over Comp was OG had sunroof.

Do you mean the the current G42 M240? or older F22?

The former, G42 is basically a 4 series with a chunk taken out the chassis. Had one for 2.5years and thought it was a great car. Almost digital acceleration due to X Drive and a 4 series cabin (up front at least). Latest tech etc, a lot to like. Liked it so much, replaced it for a G87 M2 LCI. Which in reality is a worse daily. No faster in the real world and you definitely know it has 480bhp going through the rear wheels.
