Just found details of this supplier on another forum:

www.mapodo.de/product_info.php/products_id/311

Being a tight git I've always objected to paying £14.50 a litre from my local BMW garage, so I've just ordered 10 litres (2 M5s in the fleet) at what appears to be a total cost of £85 inc postage to the UK. This works out at £8.50 per litre which is substantially less than the £14.50 a litre BMW garages are charging.

Of course I'm not sure if UK customs will try and charge some additional excise at this stage but I should know soon enough!

Would have thought that since it's coming from an E.U country they wouldn't be able to charge you duty or VAT?

I may be wrong though?

Agreed that I'm paying the german equivalent of VAT so I shouldn't be charged the UK version, but I don't know about any additional UK excise duty on oil?

Not sure if this oil is recommended for the 328i. If BMW recommend mobil 1 0w40 on your car, let me know and I'll get you some from costco at £23.50 per 4 litres.

If a man can reduce the running costs of a M5, all helps towards my M5 dream

Noted on the oil front however, she'll be off for an oil service soon, but I may take you up on your offer thumbup

I have been trying to get Castrol SLX 0W-30 to top up my 530 and it seems to have been rebranded as Castrol Edge according to searches on the interweb thingy.

Anyone confirm if this is true ?

Thanks, I might look into this. I have to carry a bottle in the boot at all times, because the car's oil use tends to increase suddenly and heavily whenever I go on a long trip.

Try another technique: My wife dropped into our local dealer to pick up some TWS for me. The parts chap disappeared and returned with a litre of Castrol's finest 10w60, which he gave her for free yikes yikes Maybe it was his last day at work or something...

Cheapest (relatively speaking) I have found so far is Halfords. I plan to pop down to Costco this week and check prices - if I can fight me way through the chavs that is.

Will let you know

Just reporting in that the oil arrived from Germany this morning. No customs correspondence or anything so I assume there is no extra duties/excise to pay.
