Probably been done to death but:

1) What are the best tyres to fit
2) On standard saloon alloys, can I fit 245 rear tyres to 225 fronts?
3) What are the best non-OEM brake pads for road/track use (just in case), and should I change the front discs/rear brakes for a track day?

That's it, thanks guys.

If you have the EVO version do not upgradge the front discs to aftermarket ones as the OEM are floating discs and disapate heat very well. I have used Ferodo DS2500's on my M Coupe (same brake set up as e36 m3) with braided hoses, uprated fluid and OEM discs and they cope with track work very well.

Depends on how much abuse you plan to give the brakes, OEM are good but for track use there are better, Performance Friction make a very nice floating disc and the Mintex ones are also decent but without a doubt you should do the hoses and fit decent fluid and pads, Pagid Yellow's are about the best you can get for road/track use and I'd use something like Mintex Black or Castrol SRF fluid, this will give you 95% of something like an AP set up but at well over half the price, you'll find most E36 trackgoers are using a similar set up. There are cheaper alternatives but quality costs

I am running Goodyear F1's which suit the car well and are good for trackdays.

If you intend to do several trackdays get ap brakes, they cost a lot but once done....

I run a E36 racer in a series that needs List 1A rubber, and I find Bridgestone RE070s 225/45/17 all round are best. Used to run 255/35/18 rear and 235/40/18 fronts Goodyear F1, but not sticky enough.

17 inch wheels that fit over my AP 6 pots and GP5000pro disks are tricky to find, but Dynamics will make a set of wheels that fit for about £120 per rim.

Mintex f4 or RS29 pagid yellows are best pads.
