I'm in P'boro as well and I had a similar problem last year when trying to find an indie for an inspection 2 on my Evo.
In the end these guys at Milton Keynes were recommended to me and that's where I went.. see www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk/
They're on our side of MK so just under an hour away and I was very happy with the service I received. They weren't the cheapest quote I got but they were alot cheaper than stealership prices
BMW approved too.
One thing I would say is that they did quote me for some other work, new rear discs and trailing arm bushes, which was quite expensive and I went to a more local garage to have them looked at.
Plus, if you book early enough, they do have an old 540i as a courtesy car which is quite good fun
