Just bought a M3 evo. First BMW even though ive been into them since i was 12. Im 22 now. Insurance is a joke but i know its worth it

Bought the car for 4'999 with 100000 miles
Seems cheap but i knew the previous owner and he was older and defo looked after it. Car seems fine to drive and it doesnt rattle or anything indicating vanos problems. Still getting used to it though. Gettin a bit worried though as im scouring the forums and everyone seems to think that the cars fall to pieces after a while lol. Is there any1 out there with a high mileage evo who can put my mind to rest please.

Interior is spot on apart from the walnut trim round the gearstick has chipped away. Cant find a replacement on EBAY and my local BMW dealer quoted 300!!!! for a new one. Any1 know of any good bmw brokers or anything that might stock it.

Im not bothered about the high mileage at all as i work abroad 7 months of the year so will only be putting about 3000 miles max a year on it.

So if any1 can give me some advice or things to look for that would be greatly appreciated. Id rather you be brutal with me so i could get the car how it should be

Thanks Guys
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

If you look around on ebay and breakers you can cheaply replace all the walnut stuff for around £60, more if you have a centre armrest. Def worth doing though!

The other upgrade people will recommend is replacing the clutch hose with the braided type, I did this just last week and it's made a big difference, lifts the bite up from the floor... http://www.bmsport.com/

Get a geometry check done do...

You need to get yourself on here smile - www.bmwowner.com

Cheers for that ill keep checking Ebay. Not having much luck. Dont want to play with the car at all. I want to keep it 100% standard but am planning on rolling roading it. Would love to know how much power it still has. I know its 321 standard. You think it would be optimistic for it to have 300plus still?

Fall to pieces?
Not heard that before to be honest. As long as you realise it's not a new car and things will go wrong with it then it's not a problem. In my opinion 90's BMW's take the miles better than most and that's why there's so many still around today. Just look at the equivalents from the 90's and you'll see they don't fair so well!
If it's been treated well then 100k miles on an M3 is not a problem, if it was I wouldn't have bought my track Evo with 103k on the clock.
There is a nice Walnut gear surround for a saloon on Ebay at the moment...I know cos it's minewink

You would hard pushed to replace all the Walnut for £60 but if you manage it well done! I would budget at least £100 and probably more.

If you have a coupe then unfortunately mines no good for you. It has cut outs for the rear leccy windows which your coupe won't have.
Typically the surround by itself goes for around £50 on Ebay, sometimes more (have seen £90) and sometimes less (£40ish). I have already been offered £40 for mine to give you an idea.
