not a total car muppet, but no legend either....what would be the key things to look at / for.....

both from a ' is it a real M5 ' point of view ( although the seller has orginal purchase invoice for 33k and to what to check to make sure car isnt knackered!

My E28 was solid, but most have rust, particularly around the cills and under the bodykit (if it has one).

Important on these is that the timing chain has been done at regular intervals, as this is quite a big job.

Otherwise it's standard E28 stuff really - look for a shake through the wheel at 50-60, check the condition of the rear bushes, but really make sure it feels like it has 280bhp. Granted these are rare cars, but don't be afraid to walk away from one that will cost you a fortune.

Out of interest, are you looking at a black one?

Timing chain - the (mostly) agreed view is that a new one is needed around 100k. Other than that what everyone else said - rust...
