Trevor Jones Cars near Slough and one other query

Biased view I am afraid as Trevor is my old man and sure someone will reply who has dealt with him. However he has been in the motor trade for over thirty years. He only sells m3 cars and they are all prepped to a very high standard. I would recommend taking a look and judging for yourself as honestly believe you won't be disappointed.

Can I ask, what do T.J offer regards servicing and warranty work(I assume its an aftermarket warranty), as you say, they appear(from their website) to specialise in M3's but they dont service/maintain them? If so do they just "specialise" in buying them?
That doesnt make them a specialist IMHO

My cousin bought a E46 M3 convertible from him about a year ago, i went to Trevor's house to see/buy the car with him. Seemed an nice enough guy. Car had been prepped to a good standard (wheels refurbed, chips/sctatches done).
Car has had no problems since and nothing picked up at main dealer service. He seemed quite sensible as dealers go and priced realistically. My cousin had no complaints i'm aware of.

When I mentioned service, I meant customer service. I have no need to go through him for any waranty related issues as mine has the BMW warranty.
That was one of the deciding factors when looking for a car.

Your only 2 posts on PH have been very informative, thanks Trevor...errr...sorry, i meant Gavin....That was one of the deciding factors when looking for a car.

UUUmmm kinda makes sense.
Podman, Trevor me old man is over 60 and didn't know what a internet forum was till I told him the other day.
In regards to specialists I would be interested to know if you can name an M3 specialist which carries out all servicing and mechanics on site in there own work shop bar a main dealer. If you can then fair play I am out of touch but I can't think of any off the top of my head and have been running M3'S on and off for over 7 years.
In regards to warranty it is either BMW if it has extended and if not unsure of brand, all I know is it covers upto the value of the car unlimited claims. Give him a call and sure he will furnish you with details if you would like to know. The mechanics are carried out by a local BMW specialist in Maidenhead yet again feel free to call and ask name if interested.
Apoligies to all for hi jacking

I bought from trevor about 2 months ago. Nice enough guy. Car was fairly priced and had been preped well.
My only issue would be that when i got the car home there was no tax in the window! I thought that was a bit cheap. My part ex was taxed and im sure the m3 was taxed for the test drive! He did sell me the old tax disk. Lucky me?!? I needed to do miles in the car and sorting tax first thing Monday morning would have been a real problem! He left me no option but to pay. I thought that was a bit off. Shame. An otherwise very professional dealer.
Anyways, car is ok. I would recommend him.
I'm glad I've had the chance to air that!
My M better not go pop now or...

Interesting to read different feedback concerning my business and many thanks for taking time to post comments. Most of it positive apart from a "tax disc" issue which I consider to be an affront to my integrity. Rather than debate, I would ask if there is any of my customers out there who have collected a car from me and found it to be any different from the car they drove on test. Please supply name and date of purchase.

Hmm, interesting to see new posters joining PH to praise a dealer?!
As for the tax disc issue it was one of four options
1 part of the sale and on the car
2 part of the sale and removed from the car
3 not part of the sale and on the car
4 not part of the sale and not on the car
the buyer obviously thought 2 and dealer 4. I once collected a new co car from a dealer and didn't notice it didn't have the tax disc for a couple of days. I was well miffed apart from risking a fixed penalty it was a hassle to go get it from the dealer so I can see the posters point. As for an 'affront to integrity' that phrase has put me off! As a dealer of many years standing you [should] know it wasn't sporting a disc and thus wasn't legal to be driven away. Secondly, as you sold it to him you had it in your possession anyway so presumably removed it to get a refund or extra money from the customer! For the cost of a disc - one miffed customer who's posted about it. Makes me wonder what other penny pinching is going on. Add a few quid to the car price and give free tax - happy punters. Play the tricks you appear to be doing and plenty other dealers do and you wonder why people get fed up with it.

Just looked at DEM3 other posts as for his M3 ---
It seems a very good car, but it sounds a bit ticky... (ticky sound goes if i go into neutral when moving so im guessing its not bearings?) kinda like when my 325ci would just before the oil light came on. The oil light has come on once or twice and i have checked the levels exactly as per the manual. I get a reading on average of 3/4. I put just under 250ml approx. yesterday, but the light has come on again.
I will check levels again today, its booked in to my local indy next week, so im hoping they will sort it.
Hmmm

Sorry was going to let this run but ian you have got my back up a little. I can't see the issue in people all be it new members letting people know there experience with a dealer. These forums are to help out and advise owners and potential owners. The tone of your post leads me to believe that you think myself and my father are putting up fake posts. I know that dealer bashing is the norm but some are actually believe it of not good at what they do and have happy customers.
In regards to the tax issue I think the post from my father is fair and that all cars when test driven display trade plates. He never advertised the car with tax and having myself bought audi and Porsche in the past from main dealers it is the norm not to get tax and to have to buy tax on top of the purchase price.
In terms of the ticking sounds like low oil due to the light being on but correct me if I am wrong but the m3 engine as STD sounds very ticky some say tappety compared to most other cars. I also assume the car has a warranty so would suggest getting in touch with them once problem is detected. Thanks matt
Standing back to await the flaming

I actually think Ian's post is fair enough - I think maybe you are a little over defensive given your closeness to the subject matter in hand.
The comment about new posters is actually factual - it is unusual for someone to join just for that reason as chances are they would not normally be reading the forums anyway as a non member. Also the other comments are a direct quote from the users own forum message.
As for the tax - dealers should make it clear when doing a deal if tax is included or not. If it isn't they should make it clear that it would need tax before it can be legally driven off the forecourt. You mention buying cars from main dealers - I agree many do make you buy your tax as part of the price, but they will put it on the invoice and supply the car taxed! I think it is fair to say when spending tens of thousands on a car from a dealer you could expect to pick up a legal car to drive off in, even if it meant the dealer has added the tax value on the invoice before payment and collection.
The comment your Dad made and Ian commented actually put me off a little too. It is an open forum, people can express their opinions and that is the result of his comments - hence why dealers, above everyone else, need to be very careful how things are expressed on here. As Ian said, was the tax disc issue worth this discussion in an open forum?
With all your Dads years of experience in the trade I would have though he would have realised by now at this price point people expect to arrive, collect and drive off in a well prepared fully road legal car and hope there is nothing that needs doing in the near future.

Got your back up? An affront to your integrity? Hardly.
£15k car, no tax? Not exactly a perfect experience is it? Why didn't he offer to sell the tax on the day I wonder?
2 fundamental things have been over looked from my original post;
1. I said i still recommended Trevor (at that point)
2. The car seems to be ok.
This isn't a case of dealer bashing just a dealer not liking a fair comment made by a customer on a PUBLIC forum.
I'm sure people reading this thread will draw their own conclusions from Trevor and his son's posts.

Yes it does look like you've asked people to post up positive reviews or done it yourself - entirely possible yet hardly ethical if that's the case. I take it back if wrong, can't be proven one way or another but thats what it looks like.In regards to the tax issue I think the post from my father is fair and that all cars when test driven display trade plates. As for tax - why does an experienced and professional dealer let a customer drive off in an illegal car? Whether or not more money was the issue! IIRC insurance is nul & void with no road tax too.
Yes the S54 (E46 M3 / Z3M / Z4M) engine is tappety, I have one, but it's pronounced at 3000 revs or so plus, not at idle. Noisy engine at idle and oil light coming on with adequate oil levels would have me hot footing it to a dealer; fast. M3 engines are not cheap.
