I was told last night that fewer than 300 of these were registered new in the Uk and that 150 are left on the road - I was shocked - is this true?

No, it's more like 1,000's for the S54 and can't remember the S50 figures.

Actually there were 821 s50 rhd built from 08/1998 to 06/2000.
And 168 s54 rhd from 02/2001 to 05/2002.
Who knows how many are left?

ECE (europe) S50 lhd 2178 from 4/98 -6/2000
north america S52 lhd 2180 from 7/98-6/2000.(think these were 3 litre)
ECE S54 lhd 168 from 02/2000-5/2002
north america S54 lhd 690 from 02/2001-05/2002.
