Bank on about 15/16mpg if it's an auto. Slightly more if it's a proper one.

Frugality was never on the agenda with these things.

They do have ABS though - at least I know the later ones do.

They are all manual and you can get decent mpg on a run - say 23 at 70-80. Around town 16-18.

They are a very efficient engine for their time.

Great car.

M635CSi mostly auto with lots of ///M extras. (some non 'M' specced cars were manual too but mostly auto)

M6 is the manual only - same engine as e28 M5

It's an easy mistake to make as logic would make one think that given the 'M'version of the E30 3-Series was called M3; the 'M' version of the E28 5-Series was called M5.

However in the case of the E24 6-Series it is the M635CSi that IS the 24V 'full monty' 286bhp car (i.e same M1 derived engine as in the E28 M5)!!

It is often either confused with or erroneously called the 'M6'. It is not. These cars were correctly badged with a simple 'M' on the rear. It's made all the more illogical in that the other car bearing a simple 'M' on the back at the time was the E28 M535i...which didn't have the 24V engine and wasn't a Motorsport built car!

The 'M6' (and badged as such on the rear) was a federalised (i.e U.S) version of the M635CSi and sold in the U.S and Canada. The engine was modified for these markets and produced only 256 bhp. They have other differences such as all of them came with storage box built into the partition between the rear seats...whiich is air-conditioned and so functions as a cool-box!

The other car that you're thinking of is in fact the 635Csi "Motorsport Edition" which was basically a 635CSi (i.e with the normal 12V 3.5L old M30 engine)produced in 1988 for the U.K market. It's basically a standard car with a few extras bells and whistles.
