Forgive my ignorance, but i'm looking at E36 M3's and do these have the same problems with the vanos as the evo's of which i've been reading.
Thanks Paul

The earlier 3.0 cars, the last of which were on an 'N' plate, do not suffer from vanos problems and are generally pretty bulletproof mechanically.

The later 3.2 litre Evo cars do have a few well documented problems including the vanos. That said, as mentioned on another thread, I ran mine for four years and 43,000 miles and didn't have any problems at all.

The 3.0 has a single VANOS which is regarded as more robust and cheaper to fix if it does happen to go wrong... but from what I can gather the Bi-VANOS on the 3.2 Evo can be repaired in most cases these days, so I guess it's not as much of a worry as is made out.

If only PH had a search button...

Dr Vanos repair kits are now available for UK Evos for circa £350 so no longer the £2k repair it once was, and it is nowhere near as big a deal as people make out.
