No. of Pins on Electric Mirrors

As per the CS mirrors thread, I've got a question about the number of pins on the M3 mirrors, be it CS or normal M3's.

I've hear there are 6 and 12 pins, and ribbons. I have just been told another set for sale have 10 pins.

I've read all sorts of forums/threads but am confused about what it fact and what is opinion!

My understanding is that:

6 pins was for early cars, without electric memory seats, non-folding mirrors.

12 pins is for cars with electric seats and folding mirrors

ribbon are for late cars, post-2004.

10 pins I've only come across this tonight - no idea what this is, but suspect it might be folding mirrors with 2 blanks?

I'm not clear if the ribbons were just facelifted non-M cars - anyone know if M car mirrors post 04 went to ribbons too?

If anyone is able to clarify, that would be great. I'm looking into putting folders on an 06 M3.

Any knowledge would be appreciated.

I'm not sure whether this will help but...

The mirrors on my CS were not folding, but were connected to the memory seats (indirectly, I'm sure). So when you moved the seat position, the mirrors moved too.

I guess all that this proves is that just because the mirrors have memory seat connectivity, doesn't mean they're folding.

I think all later cars with electric seats were linked to the mirrors. Are you refering to the memory function?

I think I've cracked - got a response from another forum that I will post up here shortly.

AFAIK all M3's have the have the 12pin plug, (regardles of electric folding), some of the real early cars (without lecy seats) may have had the 6 pin plug though.

Never heard of a 10pin, maybe its the number of wires that the guy is talking about?

If in doubt, pop the door card off and then have a look at the connector, its on the drivers door.
