E92 M3 or E64 M6?
Discussion
Been monitoring the plummeting prices and looking at these two, and a mate with an E46 CSL was offered an M6 on a very strong deal (even against his own!) and it got me thinking. Using it every day, 20-50 mile commute with occasional heavy traffic, either occasional weekend use or weekend long runs, what's best?
M6.
Technology on the M3 is better??!?!?! In your bloomin' dreams! (although I concede the DDG gearbox is better than SMG from what I hear)
The M6 isn't 30k more than the M3 brand new for no reason. The engine is fantastic, it's a much more comfortable and good looking interior, the whole package feels special.
Exterior if you like 6ers then the M6 is great. If not then I know the exterior is "challenging" for some - I really like it.
To me the M3 doesn't look special, it's nice in a kitted 3 series way but doesn't carry itself with the same gravitas as an M6 - which despite the ugly/pretty argument is a very mean and purposeful looking vehicle.
I'd not rule out owning an M3 one day as they are a great car - I do think though that to own an M6 has to be done at some point and doing it now is a good time before V10 is replaced with V8 forced induction and remaining M6's begin to be less cared for as their price goes to the 20's..

30k more than the M3 it may be, but why is it 20k more than the M5?

Nice choice to have to make!
Would be very interested to drive an M6 but to own I think I'd lean towards the M3 coupe. Similar straight line performance, a more handy size car with the equivalent of two passengers less in weight to carry around, two gearbox options that to me are preferable to the SMG in the M6 - oh, and I'm not a fan of the look of the 6 series but I do accept that's a subjective thing!

seriously considered an M6 when looking last year; ended up with a less than year old e92m3, the reason; a year old car with a great engine (same goes for the v10) 2 years warranty remaining; more useable size; and similar tech (EDC on the E92 and USB port were nice additions). I like the M6, but as I was lookin at '05/'55 plate cars about to come out of warranty it became a worry...either is awesome the V10 a masterpiece; but don't underestimate the V8; very racecar sound track at 8300rpm...neither will disappoint for sure
I had the same dilemma but went for a nearly new M3 - still in warranty, just as fast - engine tech based on V10 but with better ECU, slightly better fuel economy (but to be honest you don't buy cars like this for fuel economy) EDC means you can set the dampers to suit you and finally it's smaller outside but not inside, so is easier to thread though the tiny roads around here.
For a balt for a day, it's have to be an M6 vbut as an ownership proposition, I think the M3 is the one to have IMHO - have fun deciding for your self though!

Are drug dealers not being hit by the credit crunch
Saw a black M3 over the weekend and after that can't see the justification for an M6, especially with the warranty issues. Either way I'm now going to hold off until I come back from holidays in April.
My 330 has an inspection 2 imminent so I want a bit of value out of that before I change, and the Missus wants the Quashqai SVE she's been promised...

Test driven the M3 and own an M5.
the M3 was a lot of fun but to me it's still a lesser class vehicle.
Plus the 3 series or the m3 have image issues.
I would not expect a drug dealer to go for an M6 if you know what I mean...

You've obviously not driven around East London, I see a fair few M6's driven by asian rudeys.I think out of every ///M an M3 Saloon (or M5 Touring) probably has the least image issues at this point in time
