high mileage M6/5 E63/64 s85
Discussion
Considering to buy a 50k miles m6 s85, late 2005, mostly motorway miles by the looks of it. Can people please share their experiences with 50k+ miles s85 engines - is it scary or are these pretty stable to 100k as one might hope to expect (provided proper service history/maintenance and 2/3 price of a 25k car...). i know it is unconventional, but the way the prices are going it looks like i'll have to go for a 650i otherwise budget-wise, and that would be sad...
(i know the -if you cant buy-cant maintain argument but i have my reasons)

In the absence of any M5/M6 owners, there have been a couple on M5 board in the US that have covered well over 100k miles without issue. Try searching there if you want http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/index.php
thank you Neil. been there, but wanted some opinions closer to home.
also came across an m6 that had a warrantee engine change in year 2, at ca 30k miles. wonder what might have caused - seems a bit extreme.. recall there was a common 7 series problem back in late 90s (alloy-related) which cased most to be replaced; but never heard of anything similar with m5/m6s

Indeed. Did not imply it would be the same - just wondered if there was a common known cause...from further research it does not seem to be the case. best guess i could find is from a m-bmw mechanic who thought it could be related to the way oil is distributed inside the engine, a possible failure being pretty catastrophic and if not immediately responded to could lead to a need for replacement - but even this seemed a bit far-fetched..
