Seen this on ebay. No service history. At this sort of price and subject to a vigorous inspection, is it that important? Would appreciate members views on this.
Cheers

If the seller is suggesting it has BMW history, but the book is lost, ring BMW UK with the reg and for a small fee they'll tell you the history.

Something doesnt sound right though - "I'm fussy about my cars, this is a creat example...but I've never followed up on the missing history"...

Hmm....

Given up on getting a yellow one then? smile

Not worth it IMO. It is one of the first ones ever made, has *only* 101k miles, in 16 years, no SH...just not worth it. There are too many around to settle for the most convienient. Find another, more documanted one.

apart from anything else.... think of the hassle YOU'LL have trying to sell it on again.

Just get one which does have a history and where you're not going to have "that niggly feeling" that something about it's history is suspicious.

A careful owner or oweners will always look after thee books. these cars can hide the mileage well and fairly easy to clock to just avoid it.

Not yet, but this did look quite nice. I have to be realistic, if you tie yourself down to one colour, certain miles, certain model etc etc, then you can wait forever, maybe i am jsut an impatient sod smile

Wait. How long do you plan to keep the car? Lets assume two years +, then surely its work looking for a couple of months?

Something will come. Scour the owners sites, Autotrader, PH Ads etc...if you've got the right budget and are prepared to pay, you'll find it.

Have been looking on Ebay, PH Autotrader, Car and Classic, did you mention MTorque in a previous thread? Can't find that one. Any others you can recommend?

I did recommend MTorque too - thats a forum for M power owners. www.mtorque.co.uk - maybe ask on there?

How long have you been looking?

What about M owners club?

While it's true that once past an certain age a FSH is unlikely and you're better buying on condition rather than being too worried about the mileage.

Not to make too many assumptions but a part time motor trader who's fussy about his cars hasn't bothered to chase up the history for a car he's selling.

Thats a big no no in my book.. Sounds to much like "I lost the history so you can't tell I've shaved 30,000 miles off the clock" or the better known "So you can't see the 3 years it spent off the road being re-built after that smash"

Keep looking there are nice cars out there from owners who've looked after them.

Exactly, these can be clocked for £50.

That car may have done 15k miles a year or even 30k miles a year, at 16 years old that could be anywhere between a quarter of a million miles or half a million miles done in it, the suspension etc. may have been replaced but there may not be much life left in the engine.

I bought a 530i with 60k miles on it, after a day or two I started having my doubts, pulled in some favours and found it was seen 2 years previously with 138k miles on it.

Just walk away, that would need to be a £2k car to risk it on in my opinion.

An engine giving up the ghost on an e36 m3, will be more than half the cost of the actual car.

At least get one that has evidence of work being carried out.
