Superchip for e39 M5?
Discussion
Hi all
I am planning to visit the southeast of England in early May this year. I'm wondering about taking the opportunity to have a superchip fitted and the speed limiter removed. I've seen prices of about £400, but I have the following questions:
1) If anyone has had their car chipped, was it worth it? i.e. are the gains noticeable?
2) Are superchips pretty good or is there a better alternative?
3) Can anyone recommend a fitter in SE England? I've heard good things about JKM in Portsmouth...
Thanks in advance
Ben

I just had my M5 remapped by Evolve for £500. They download your DME software and back it up so they can put the car back to its original state if you don't like it and give you a full refund. You can't gain a lot in BHP on the S62 without headers or superchargers, but the difference in drivability is simply stunning. The throttle response is sharper, the low down torqe is stronger and the way it revs has to be seen to be believed. I can't get enough of it and it's even made driving in London more fun as just the slightest increase in throttle gives you a satisfying shove in the back. It's not snappy though - just a solid wall of torque that's completely under your control. I would recomend it to anyone.
The DME does take a few cold start cycles to fully adapt so the car gets better and better for a couple of days in a row. It's like when you recover from being ill!
BTW - it's also decreased my fuel consumption as a bonus!
