E46 M3 Suspension making noises...

Hi Guys,

When I'm turning into why driveway there a creaking sound comes from the rear suspension, there is a slight gradient as I turn. This seems to happen when coming of curbs etc also.

Has anyone experienced this?

Not in My M3 but in my 996 I sold a couple of cars back, the shock absorbers were worn out when this happened. Same noise and eventually becomes more evident with less and less load.

Without damaging the bodywork just lean on the arch and suppress the suspension - same squeak?

Hopefully somebodys had this on an M3 and can tell you more relative to your car.

Could be a broken coil spring. They can tend to snap off at the lowest coil so its not that obvious even to drive, and the ride height remains pretty much the same. Its something to check.

Sounds to me like it's your bushings that need replacing.

I'd check the springs first.

They are notorious for snapping.

Thanks for your replies. I bought the car from a main dealer 3 months ago so I'm guessing this would be covered by the used car warranty?

Just thought I would complete the story on this one in case anyone else experiences the same problems.

Last week the creaking was still there and i noticed that every time i went over a speed bump it sounded like i had driven over a loose drain cover. Decided to take it to the dealer who said that the problem was indeed a broken coil spring - all fixed now under warranty. Very pleased with the service at Cooper Cobham!

Glad to hear you had good customer service at Cooper Cobham, thinking of using this dealership when I get my new motor!
Although hope they can match other dealerships e.g. (Wood BMW) as the last time I checked the the labor rate was quite high!

coil springs snapping is very common and if your car is fBMWsh and dependent on mileage BMW should cover part of the cost even out of warranty - what they call goodwill.
