Just received my M5 this afternoon and WOW, what a car!

After blasting it round all afternoon I have now got an hour or 2 to have a fiddle with the iDrive system smile

I cannot get the car to see my iPhone 3g or vice versa? Can anyone help me?

Cheers

Also try BMW website, owners page from which you can check your phone will work and if an adapter is available. Worth having since it will charge the phone and improve reception.

Clear all known pairings in iDrive first.

Then run through the process but make sure iPhone is ready on bluetooth first

iPhone needs to be on 2.2 minimum and M5 on latest iDrive.

If not on latest iDrive tell them sat nav is slow to/sometimes doesn't respond and ask for idrive update which should get it done for free

I have deleted all the phones on there (one was an iPhone) but I cannot for the life of me see how to activate a "search" for phones on the M5?

Is a bit fiddly at first..

Select info.

Select bluetooth

Select Pair/Find new phone

Select start pairing, make sure at this point you've gone into the bluetooth on the iphone, I tended to run the iphone bluetooth off and then back on at the same time I started the 'Pair/find new phone'
This is as I remember it anyway...

Hopefully you've updated sofware recently on the iphone to 2.2 as the 2.1 wouldn't upload the phone book...

Good luck...

Have you clicked info where you would find the service info and stopwatch and all that? then scroll across to phone/bluetooth then it gives the options to pair a phone....it's not in the communication menue if that's where you're looking...

iPhone 3G works with the Blue tooth, but when i plug it in via the USB it does not work. Its a pain to have to use a standard wire from the headphones,
Is there a way to make the idrive recognize the iPhone to play music via the USB? (E92 M3)

I've got some automatic system on the M6 that has numbered buttons on the rear view mirror for that stuff.

No garage/parking electric gates though so maybe we need to swap :-)

Mine pairs pefectly with my 06 M5, but before I had the latest software update, I had to use the "z contacts" trick (whereby you create 2000 z contacts) - google it, it works.

I have the glovebox ipod connection and it works fineon that, but doesn't charge.
