does anyone think that the saloon has an easier life than it's coupe sibling? I have focused on coupes' but i am wondering if a saloon may be a better bet. prices seem better on saloons, with lower mileage sometimes.
Do the saloons appeal to the younger M3 PH's? or do you feel they are a bit fuddy duddy ish

Nothing in it, really.

My first M3 was a saloon, this one a coupe.

Just go for whatever's in the best condition with the best history.

Saloon's used to be a little cheaper than coupes as they were less desirable, but no idea if that's still the case.

Dynamically there is no difference, the carbon/plastic roof on the coupe is nice, but having had problems with the lacquer coat on a previous CSL I was happy to look at the painted saloon roof!
There are not many saloons about and most of the time no one notices the car, which looks to a casual eye as just another 3 series beemer. Given the times we live in i see this as a big plus

Really? What colour is yours? My grey one should blend in but I've found it gets quite a lot of attention, because it's a saloon!

Pictures taken, questions at traffic lights etc...

I agree with foresterlad, My Purple Saloon never seems to get a 2nd glance, which to me is a plus.

Had mine 4 years (when I was early 30's lol) and its been great with rock solid reliablity which is awsome for the mileage mine has on it.

I personally think that the saloon looks better (I assume we are talking new M3), and that the bodystyle does not necessarily indicate how a car might have been treated, or what kind of owner has been driving.

Going by the OPs other posts I think we're talking about the E36.

Saloon all the way with the E36 but for some reason I prefer the E90 coupe.

Judging by one of your other threads it is the E36 you're talking about. I have a Saloon and I am very happy with it except for the wood trim that came as standard. It makes the car a bit old fashioned in my opinion. So I've since sourced replacement black plastic pieces - mainly secondhand - and it has made the car look a lot more modern. Not difficult to do nor that costly. All in including a new BMW gear knob came in under £100. I also sourced a Z3 front loading CD player and this helps to maintain the look of the car, as many have ditched the BMW radio cassette for after market affairs which don't look the part. However expect to pay well over a £100 for a pucker genuine secondhand one. Don't be fooled by the MG ones that have a badge stuck on them!

In that case coupe only. The 4dr just looks like a 316 with a set of alloys. I appreciate that there are a lot of 316 coupes out there with kits and wheels, but at least a quick glance for the correct mirrors and seats means that a real one is easy to spot ...... unless it has been fitted with the wheels and seats.

If we're talking E36, stealth is part of the appeal, so I prefer the saloon slightly. But condition, service history, mileage and spec (in that order) would be my determinants.

I prefer the coupe but if the saloon I looked at had been in better condition I'd have bought it.
