i get that now and again, just eject the magazine and put it back in again
Cheers for the post -Tried that
I appears the motor that drives the collection of the CD's from the multi trays is getting jammed so going to need a spot of DIY (if I can suss how to get all the panels off) or an auto lec

Had this intermittently over the last two years (2001 car, original factory fit CD unit). A bit of research on the M5board revealed this was a common problem, only fixed in the long term by replacing the unit. Usually whacking the side of a unit a few times would make it work for a while. However last week I reached the summit of the problem when the machine wouldn't eject the cartridge. After 10 minutes of trying to get the cartridge out I came up with an imaginative solution.Operation "Av That" commenced, A-Team stylee with a screw driver/gemmy, pliers, a hammer and a bottle of Grolsch. Ten minutes later I'd got my CDs out and needed a new bottle, sadly the unit was lost (totally wrecked) on the operating table and was off to the great recycling centre in the sky.
The autopsy revealed the cartridge wouldn't come out because something was jamming the mechanism that slides the discs in and out of the cartridge.
Called into the BMW garage and was told a new CD shuttle would be £270+vat. After picking myself up off the floor I declined their kind offer. Went online and ordered an Alpine replacement unit with converter for £177 inc VAT and postage. Should arrive in the next few days.

Cheers Daz
(though I may just drop the CD and go for the intravee IPod connection - only about £50 more?)

Mine has started doing this over the weekend. I've ejected and replaced the cartridge a couple of times now, but no luck.
I'll try giving the unit a bit of a "wake up" tap later, then think about the Alpine solution after that.
You get yours sorted in the end Angry_Apples?
Is exchanging the unit for the Alpine a simple job?
