M3 Evo - Brilliant - Part 2!
Discussion
Just back from a massive weekend of thrashing my Evo at the Nurburgring. She purred all the way down, had her arse kicked all weekend then purred all the way back.
Time - 9m03secs. Very happy with that for only my 12th lap in total and my brakes are knackered anyway. Will definately be down in the 8s next time.
Car running on Gaz coilovers, camber adjusters (3 degrees negative) and Eagle F1 tyres. Front and rear braces and DaveF induction kit as well as an M3 GT front splitter (genuine not placky fake).
Saturday morning I was 10m15s but hadn't developed the balls yet. lol. Took a little visit to www.rsrnurburg.com and they advised getting corner weights done. So I did and discovered that I had the equivalent of a 100kilo person sitting on my front right. So a few hours and a lot of adjustment to the individual ride heights in each corner with me sitting in the car, the weight distribution was almost bang on perfect left and right and front to back. The mechanic, a Nurburgring 24 veteran race driver also sorted out the damping and rebound settings on a test drive along some bumpy country roads.
Sunday morning. 9m43s. What a difference. Car felt brand new and perfectly balanced and a totally different drive. Money VERY well spent so if you've fitted coilovers and not done your corner-weights - get it done!
Interestingly, that was done with the splitter half way out. There was little understeer but upon pulling it all the way out I immediately went 15 secs faster.
What a weekend and what a car. Will get some pics up in due course. She used a grand total of zero oil and managed 13mpg at the ring!

Had Gaz coilovers and suspension overhaul on my M3 Evo back in in March and it's completely transformed the car on and off the track. It's now handles like a performance car should, the turn-in is fantastic, as good as my Westfield was.
If you haven't done so already, fit a Z3 steering rack, probably the best mod I've done to date.
Next mod is fitting the internals of a 3.62 diff from the E46 M3, should make things a lot quicker up the straights.

Hello - Tim's mate, we spoke in the carpark.
I posted something very similar on evo.
"Fackin awesome car.

370 miles to a tank, enabling me to get their on one tank, steady as you go cruising speed on 100mph ish, with leather, air con, stereo and no need of ear plugs
Arrive and drive like your hair is on fire for 3 days.
Then home on one tank. Unbeatable performance and value for money.

9m03s? Bridge to gantry, I presume? That's a respectable time after 12 laps. Fantastic place, isn't it?
My best time after 85 laps is 9m07s. I rarely time my laps, so I may have gone quicker on others, although that one was a good one. In your car, 8m30s should be achievable eventually.
Usual Ring-timing disclaimer: Don't chase times. If you must time yourself, read it from a recording after the lap.

It's so difficult not to try for a better lap each time though!

I used a great piece of software that if you have a nokia or windows mobile phone you can download from www.racechrono.com. It uses GPS to split the ring into 20 sectors from bridge to gantry. Just set it up and hit start and as soon as you pass under the bridge it starts then stops automatically just after the gantry. Then it takes all your fastest sectors over each lap and works out what your optimum lap should be. Very clever stuff and better still, free!
