Having owned my Z3M for almost 5 months, i thought i would treat her to a service as its almost due.
Rang BMW in Salisbury & was told that somebody would call me back to which nobody did, rang them again the next day & was told that somebody would call me back & again, nobody did! I then thought i would email them for the price for the service/inspection 1 & was absolutely gobsmacked at there prices. £821.15 for an inspection 1, is that about what i can expect to pay?
I am really hoping that somebody can point me in the right direction of a well known specialist near Andover Hampshire because that price seems a complete rip off. Please tell me that there is somebody out there who isn't going to charge £100 + an hour labour.

^emtec^ - I have used them once, but was slightly underwhelmed tbh. Nice guys, knowledgable enough, but didn't sort everything first go, & more imortantly, not second either! Woods weren't great, either, never got to the bottom of one issue, & sent me out with the car running rougher than a badgers rear end!
If you're further south, I recommend www.keycops.co.uk - very good, reasonable rates & very determined...they deal with all sorts, don't be put off by the slightly ramshackle workshop, they know their stuff! Free courtesy car first visit, often open all day Saturday as well. (I don't work for them!)

Used Emtec a few times in the past and they are good, although they did pop my side sill off its clips when they lifter the car on the hoist, no damage done but annoying none the less. M5 will be going there once I get it.

Err... dependingon the age, some dealers are doing the BMW 'Four Plus' scheme. I just got 60% off labour and a day out in Brighton at Chandlers BMW for the front discs and pads, keys, blipper and airbag light reset. Must have saved about £200. It was about £490 all in for that.

I don't know if this helps. If its over 10 years old, it will be 60%, if not 30 - 40 % I think. Worth a try?

Go to an recomended Indy. Generally better service, knowledge and without the kick in the balls price. My inspection 2 on my z3MC was only £450ish at my indy. Sure i paid about 250 for my inspection 1.

Where are you?

Maybe try asking on z3m coupe.com or zroadster.net for a list a recomended indies near you. I doubt very much you would see anything like the money spent returned to you due to fBMWSH come resale time. May owners of theses are lifers in which case it matters even less.

I hope this is of some help.

The car is a 1998 model which they were told. There was no mention at all of any discount being available.

If you could get to bournemouth/poole I can highly recommend KarTechnic who specialise in high end german cars.

I used them after the inept mechanics at the BMW dealer down the road could diagnose a problem and then came up with the most inane possibities. Took car to KTs and the owner took my car out, came back 5 minutes later with a diagnosis and 15 minutes later it was fixed.

Only reason I would ever take my car back to the dealer would be to preserve the warranty.

Woods in Salisbury always provided a fantastic service for my E46 M3. Always willing to negotiate a good inspection price with competitors and provided a top notch service. Always worth building a good relationship with a dealer. I travelled from Bristol because they were so much better than local competition.

Not near you but the difference in price is amazing between indies and dealer. AMC in SW London did my big inspection for £290 whilst the local BMW dealer, Coopers now closed down (I wonder why), wanted over £600 then knocked about £50 off as it is 10 years old.

I use Bexley Motorsport (London), Munich Legends (East Sussex) and Evolve (Luton).
All good, all reasonable and certainly IMHO a much much better choice than a BMW Stealer.

I have just paid £306 for an inspection 1 on my V8 M5 which I thought was very good, I went to Plymouth BMW for conveniance more than anything but that was hundreds less than other dealers.
