How do you make 7.5 weeks disappear?

I had the meeting with the dealer on Friday and went through the numbers. The initial figures have gone up and a deposit was paid but overall I am very pleased with the deal I have.
The car is Space Grey coupe (BMW have stopped making the colour I wanted, Graphite) with red interior (not Fire Fox). EDC plus some other goodies. I cannot wait to pick it up now.
The last week of June!

Of course. I also need to find a way of travelling 1200 miles in a week because I will be off to Europe with it via Germany!
I will be the first to volenteer my services for a shift at the wheel to keep a rotor of PH'ers at the wheel 24 hours a day until the miles are on it ..... Would love to see the look on the dealers face when you arrange collection on 9am Monday, and at the same time book the car in for it's running in service at 9am the following day with the car arriving bang on time, and filthy with road grime from it's 50mph average 24hour road trip

, but would people have the self restraint to keep it under 5500rpm for the duration of that period? I know it's going to be hard as the M3 is slower than my diesel hatch when keeping it in the lower reaches of the rev range. At least the MPG will be respecable for those first few miles!krallicious said:

Think 12-13 mpg will be tops. You will be on first name terms at your local Shell garage. At least it was with me. You will need to baby it along for a few days to be fair.
Especially if you went for the DCT and have the Sport Cup+ rubber. The DCT box does take a little getting used too espeaciaaly at low speed at junctions etc as there is a little lag in the drivetrain. I did seem to spend most of my time shifting around 3-4 k and only straying over 5500 a few times.
You can have the run in service done a little earlier than 1200 too. I was told 1000.
One smile inducer is to tootle at 30-40 in S mode say in 4th and blip down to 2nd.
Oh and welcome to the Grey side.

What kind of deal did you end up getting buddy? Sounds like you're going to put some big mileage on the beast, does that hurt the finance much?
These 7.5 weeks are going to go... so......sloooooowly........
But congrats, nice choice!
Cheers

I don't want to go into figures too much but I did get a good deal, after putting down a deposit, and I estimated 60,000 miles for the three years which I don't think will be too far off (been averaging 17k for the past 6 years). These 7.5 weeks are going to go... so......sloooooowly........

The payments per month work out about the same as a fully specced 320d.
Was given a rough trade in figure for the E92 in 3 years time with over 60k and it was £12,000

If I can get the run-in service done early then that would be great. I'm planning on driving the car straight to Bristol and enjoying the Downs and Chedder Gorge for a couple of days then back off to Norfolk taking the scenic route. Should get me up to the 800 mile mark at least.
Looing forward to joining the dark(ish) side. Lovely Porsche by the way. Thats the next step for me after the M3, fingers crossed.
Porsche ?? Thats my previous M3 parked up on Porlock Hill.
If I'm brutally honest I think you have made the better choice regarding the manual.
It is a little less involving overall to drive with DCT, others may say otherwise.
That aside its still a great car.
Just hope you can cope with the butterflies the night before you pick it up.

I was looking at M3RMS's profile then back to yours and I became confused for some reason If I'm brutally honest I think you have made the better choice regarding the manual.

I apologise for the mistake and for any offence caused

The butterflies have all ready started. I was nervous just taking the M3 out on a test drive the first time. My left leg felt like jelly!

I love M3's - and it was a toss up between that and the 997 when I was looking. (Well those & a Caymen S. And a 996 Turbo. And maybe an M6. Or an RS4 Avant).Anyway, great car & nothing in it performance wise between the C2S. I would have been happy with either. That said, the porker is an immense bit of of kit - and I just can't see me driving anything else for a good time to come.....!!
Cheers

ps. Another day gone, getting closer...
[quote=PorkCan I be first in the queue with my £12k then? A 3y/o M3 would be bargain of the decade at that.

Possibly but if the price is good enough then I will buy the car off BMW, run it for a couple more years and then, if things are still rosey, start to turn it into a trackday car. Well it would be silly not to with that engine!

Im up to 500 miles in my new M3 and it really is hard to keep it below 5500rpm,but I want the car ran in properly so Ive got to restrain myself.
MDCT is a world away from the DSG system in VW's(although the DSG is not a bad system).
I was warned by a few people about jerkiness in the drivetrain but Ive not experienced it in my car despite most of my miles being driven around town-maybe the latest cars such as mine have a software update(Mine is a late March build)
Strangely I am finding the handling slightly better with the roof down, maybe the weight distribution is slightly better when the weight of the folding hartop is stowed in the boot?
