I was just looking at Elephant.co.uk for a renewal quote for my 1998 E36 323i SE and got a Comp price of £318 for a car worth £1000 (£220 TPFT).

Not that I could afford one I thought that I would see what a M3 would come out for and was surprised at only £840.

That's business use in the TV industry, parked in road at night in London. I'm late 40s and with the wife on it aswell.

Think that is pretty cheap whilst the quote for my car seems pricey for what it is.

I have a 2004 M3, full no claims, public car park in the day and on my drive at night, £485 incl protected no-claims and legal cover for myself and wife (both 33 y/o). Bargain! I had 3 quotes come in at under £500 .

Soft market is good for consumers!

My Mrs insures our one. With me as named driver and vice versa on the Fiesta.

Last years came in at £700.

26yr old with 7yrs no claims. Pretty reasonable I thought.

I had a qoute off them too, less than £300. Think they needed the tracker activating though.

I'm going to have to start hunting around pretty soon. I checked just out of curiosity a couple of time a few monthsa ago and had quotes ranging from £1500 to around £9000. I have no idea why as I didn't really think the insurance companies would view me as a huge risk considering I have never had to claim for an accident (touch wood), apart from vandalism that occured in October 2004, have a clean licence and the car is garaged. Strange confused

I had a CBR600 when they first came out in 1988 so I was 26, a dispatch rider, in London, parked on street and insurance was not a problem.

I had another CBR in '93, so a little older, lived in the same area and worked in TV yet still insurance was not a problem.

Wanted another CBR in 2003, then 41 married with kids living in a better part of London and no insurance company would touch me on a "Super Sports" as I did not have a garage.

I was allowed a naked bike tho' the CB600F Hornet.

No! insurance does not make any sense to me either.

huh?!! I have just started my M3 2002 insurance with Admiral over the weekend. It cost me £1,058 sdp & commuting, 8,000 miles annually, fully comp with protected ncd but a whopping £750 excess (which I am already likely to have to cover....but thats another story!)

I am 34, with 5/6 years protected no claims, living in north east london (bit of a crap hole) with the car is garaged.

This is clearly an outrageous price but was the best i could find!

How have all your quotes come in so much lower??

Any advice would be a revelation!

Thanks, tnb

woohoo Just checked Admiral and £984 full comp with a £350 excess, approx 15,000 miles, girlfriend and mother on the policy too. The quote is only valid until the 10/6 and my car arrives on the 29/6
frown but I don't believe it will go up too much in that time.

Tried Adrian Flux £2200 with NU or a policy for £1900 with, wait for it, a £3000 excess!!! yikes

I got my reasonable quote through the site confused.com. Have you tried them?

I tried all the comparison sites and they were all expensive. I think a grand for a 26 year old is quite good.

I didn't read your post properly.

That is good, especially considering that my quote was only a little less than yours for a E92 M3 in London, and I'm 46.

Maybe their system was on the blink smile I'm unsure as to what to do with regards to the insurance on my current car though. I'm going to let it run its term but that runs out on the 21st July and I will then have 4 years no claims so can protect it. Ideally I need to find someone who will cover me for 3 weeks so I can start my new policy on the M3 with the 4 years protected no claims confused

I have to add business use as I travel to different locations for work as well as working in telly, so that bumps it up.

I have seen ads on the telly for short term insurance, bet it's expensive tho'. You will just have to do the sums.

I have to say that a M3 V8 at 26! Well donebiggrin

When I was 26 I had a couple of motorbikes, a company van and my brother's Mk3 Cortinahehe

Thank you.

I'm also thinking that short term insurance is going to cost me an arm and a leg. I'll contact Admiral and find out about their cancellation fees. Maybe you are given a months grace in which time you can reject the yearly policy. I know they do a 'fast track' scheme for no claims (they give you a full year after 10 months) but I cannot remember if I took that out last year!

Oh well, more research needed.
