Hi guys
Been offered 2 continental sport contact 2's at a very good price
sizes and spec are 245/45/17 95w virtually brand new, i know my evo should have 245/40/17's on the rear, but money is a bit tight.
I need some new tyres soon, and was wondering if these would be ok to fit?

Thanks

Your speedo will go out with the later tyre if its not standard fit.

I changed from 35 to 40 on my old car and the ride improved greatly. As long as the rest of the spec is the same (speed rating etc) I can't imagine you'd have any issues.

I hope not?, it just increases i think by about 12mm (45% of 245,compared to 40% of 245)
I guess the car will sit 12mm higher at the back end, i am hoping there is enough room under the arches to cope

On most cars I would not have mentioned it but the E46 M3 rather impressively has one of the best 'wheel' filled arches of any production car that I know of.. and with an extra 1/2 inch .. well a blow out could be serious.

£150 each seems quite expensive for second hand tyres in the wrong size.

Blackcircles are doing brand new Continentals in the proper 245/40ZR17 size for £154 fully fitted inc VAT. They also have Goodyears and Bridgestones for quite a bit less than that.

Thats how much they are worth when i looked, i got them for much less than that. They have been used for about a week, picked them up for less than a £70 for the pair

I would imagine that it will fit within the arches but don't know for definite. You should have enough space on the bump stops not to foul the arch.

However, you should consider the impact this will have on your gearing as the tyre will roll further. In addition, your handling balance will change slightly by increasing weight over the front but again only marginal.

Right, I'm with you now. Thought you were paying £150 each for the ones you're buying.

At less than £70 for the pair they're worth a punt. If they don't fit you can always sell them on again.
