Why, just why is it the sat nav in an E92 M3 so ste, the amount of times I have put in a post code and due to not being able to input the full post code, have ended up miles away, even when I input part of the post code, street names aren't there, it takes an age to workmad

Just ste, i really like my M3 but the sat nav quality is ste, are there any upgrades for this model that can ease my total frustration?

If there are can you let me know. I too share your frustration.

Put in the first 3 digits.. fine fourth ok. WTF does it only now give me 2378 for the next??? when I need 5.

I have resorted to using the map input function instead.

The route planning also suspect at times.

I must admit it is a pain and I've never been overly happy with any built in SatNav units regardless of cost. I've just got a letter from BMW saying that for £120 I can update my SatNav DVD to the latest maps etc. However I've decided to spend more and buy a TomTom unit instead, much better piece of kit and it'll get you there.

can't agree more with OP and others; rubbish route choices and limited inputs just annoys more and more; never opt for dynamic routes; probably the worst co-pilot you could ask for. Personally I wouldn't add an additional system in the car; but I can see that if I used Nav all the time I would quickly want to hurt whoever a BMW was responsible for the programming (or buying in the hardware from a 3rd party)...

If anyone finds a way to improve it I'd be all ears..cheers

Thats really poor on a £50K car isnt it... shocking..

Not that it helps but i see renault or peugeot have teamed up with Tom-Tom now as the std in car head unit / software.. as their system is streets ahead.. shout

Nothing to do with it being a £50,000 car.

It's still the same system that is used in cheaper, £20,000 BMW models.

It may look nice but I don't think its worth paying much extra for (in the used car market at least)

They really did cock it up, but to be fair, most in-car navs are pretty cack

The new BMW satnav is supposed to be fantastic. The old one is fine. If you don't think so, try Aston Martin satnav. The AM version is prehistoric.

The AM Nav is the old one from the Volvo parts bin. Is horrific.

I find the BMW sat nav is ok but not great. I still carry and use a Tom Tom for really tricky routes.

That said sat nav in my M6 and X5 is much much much better than the system that was in my previous 996.

Agree with Zod - it's not that bad. There are loads worse out there! Postcode thing is really annoying though - I just use town names to get around it.

Nah, it's rubbish.

Of course it was worth it! It's pretty well as fast as the M5 unless you're in balls-out mode on the Autobahn and it's quicker on a twisty road. It sounds sublime and the interior is a lovely place to be. I just love sitting low down in a sports car. I've never got the attraction of sitting high up in an SUV.

I rarely if ever encounter hostility in the M5, but I think I've had a thumbs up twice in three years driving it. In the Aston, I get smiles, thumbs up, lingering stares, especially from women. Just once some young bloke decided to call me a useless wker as he walked past with his mates while I was waiting at traffic lights.

That will be the Envy monster coming out in some stroker who will never own one.. or have the balls to try and do what it takes to get in that position..

These are idiots that make me nervous about leaving a nice car in a public place..

Good luck to you..

Off topic but AMV8..? I tracked my M3 back2back with my buddy 3 weeks ago at silverstone in his.. we were pretty much dead even on the GP circuit.. the A/M had a little more torque and pulled 3-4mph more on the straights.. i was better on the brakes, but cornering grip about even.. best lap he beat me by 1 second..
We were stunned at how good the A/M was in stock spec on the track..

Well I didn't expect you to outright regret it or anything. a colleague of mine bought a vantage, which being more epxensive than the m6 for isntance is inferiour in every way other than consumption. That's from a technological point of view. but of course it makes up for it by being many times over better looking and desireable.

You answer was spot on with the thumbs up looks and lingering stares form women. THAT playes a big role in why we go for expensive cars, whether we want to admit it or not.

Personally, I would never buy a car based on whether I got lingering stares from women or not! The main criteria for me is how good is it to drive and can I drive it well or not - some cars you just gel with: others you don't. I used to own an Alfa 33 16v - the reviews were terrible but I just loved that car, the engine was awesome and it just suited the way I drive. The Mk1 Elise was similarly awesome but I never bought one of these because at the time it was too much money for me! Porsche 911's seem to suit my driving style too but the while AM V8 is nice and definitely gorgeous; it's not the ultimate driving machine or anything, so I wouldn't have one for the outlay - although I can see why many people would - it's a stunningly attractive car inside and out!

have a new Audi S4 Avant as a courtesy car while mine is being repaired, no full post code on that either and it's even worse, the most irritating and boring car I have ever driven, so dull, give me the M3 and BMW sat nav anyday, really suprised I said that!
