My heater/aircon blower has stopped working today, tried to check the fuse which says it is at location 76, but I can't find location 76, all I know is it's rated at 40A. The fuse bank in the glovebox only goes up to 45. Also checked in the boot but it's not there either. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

I think it's up behind the glovebox, try getting right down in the footwell and having a look up behind the box when it's open.

By the way this could be the blower resistor - they are a commmon fault - mines gone twice before/

If it suddenly stopped working for no reason then the resistor pack is probably to blame and needs replacing. Not a biggie and a common failure on E39's(Ive had a couple go on cars in recent months alone)

There are also fuses and relays behind the right hand boot trim (under the fuel filler pipe area)
Could well be the heater/blower/vac "final stage resistor" or hedghog as its sometimes known.
About £45 and if you do it yourself halfhour on your knees.
Do a search on M5Boarr.com for instructions

Hi all, many thanks for the info, I think it is the resitor, one of the links mentions the fan doing funny things such as running with the ignition off, which struck a chord, last time I used the car the fan was running on and off a long time after I'd parked up, thought it was strange then, must have been the resitor pack on it's way out. Trip to the dealers for a new one me thinks.
Thanks again, Andy.

New part fitted and all sorted, £58.00 incl the vat and OC discount, not too bad. Thanks for the advice. Andy.
