Hi all,

I'm now set on an SMG M3 but just wanted to double check repair costs if the worst was to happen. I'm aiming for a car with about 60-70k on the clock and gather that this is the sort of time that the SMG pumps fail.

The SMG and manual boxes appear to be the same apart from the following additions on the M3. Does anyone know any approximate prices for the replacement (or refurbishment by a specialist) of each of these?

-SMG Pump failure
-SMG Relay Failure
-Compression Spring Failure

Many thanks in advance,

Nick

I know a chap that got one andthe pump went about 4 days in. Not much change from 2k after labor costs and that was at an indie. I wouldn't have one myself.

Where did you hear that the pumps fail at 60/70k?

Get one with an AUC warranty.

Like the one put in the classifieds yesterday.

Cough cough.

I just bought a used pump that was from an 18k mile 2006 car for £220, turns out it was a relay but that is besides the point.

There are always loads about used.

SMG Pump can be purchased as a spare from a BMW Main Dealer for approx £1150

You need to set up the SMG Pump using Diagnostic software such as Autoenginuity (£350)

Takes about 2 hours to remove & replace the pump & set-up
