Sat Nav Display Graphics Question (E39 M5)
Discussion
Hi All, a question for you all.
I have the Mk3 CD based nav computer, and the 16:9 widescreen headunit.
I believe i'm on version 16 of the firmware, in the 'set' menu i think it says SW3-1/16, (not with the car at the moment)
I notice that my system looks like a 60's robot display, like this-

And someone else on the internet is running a mk3 unit which looks far more slick...

Is it purely the software revision (the slick one is on V63) that improves this display? Or are the mk3 units different on different years or something?
Thanks
Matt

I had a similar issue once when upgrading the OS. It only happened once and went away.
I don't know but I know if you post here you will get an answer;

I did, i followed the guides on X5 world, but in summary, and i suggest you research first!.....
1)Download V22.1 of the software, which is the latest version for the Mk3 unit from here (Takes about 3 hours to download) http://www.e38.org/nav/v22_1_CloneCD.rar
2) Download the KeyCD from here http://www.xoutpost.com/nav/Nav_KeyCD.zip
3) Extract the above two archieves into folders on your desktop or somewhere
4) Download the trial version of CloneCD from here and install it http://www.slysoft.com/en/clonecd.html
5) Now burn a cd with the keycd on -
1. Launch clonecd, select write from the image file button
2. Browse to the IMAGE.CCD file in the temporary folder and select it
3. Hit the ‘next’ button
4. Set a slow write speed (like x1), then hit ok and burn the cd.
6) Burn another cd with the update software on
7) Thats the hard part done, now take your two cds out to the car.
8) Turn the ignition on, don't start the engine, engage the sat nav and allow it to boot up
9) Eject the nav disc cd and insert the update cd
10) In a few moments it'll start updating, there will be a progress bar on the display, when its finished, follow the on screen instructions, eject the cd, and then confirm the cd is ejected with the right push button.
11) It'll ask for the key cd, insert this, and a few moments later it'll be ejected and the nav system will reboot.
12) Done! Insert the map cd again and off you go.
Thanks
Matt

I think it also enable the 'perspective' view. I have an E46 M3 with a MK3 computer but I think it's the same as your car.
Instructions;
"3D Perspective Mode. The latest version of the BMW MKIV firmware allows for 3D map viewing via a hidden menu item. To turn on perspective mode, from the main menu of your navigation screen select "settings", then press and hold the MENU button for 8 seconds. Using the left scroll button scroll down to Perspective and turn on."

Matt,
firstly, thanks for the instructions. I appreciate you're probably not the authority on this but it isnt working for me.
I have the MK3 like you so downloaded the same version. The 'key cd' worked great on clone and seems to have written correctly. When I tried to put the software onto a CD I just wrote it on using the windows program, rather than using the clone program as it didnt seem to work all that well.
Then when putting the 'new' CD into the Nav player, it doesnt upload. It just tells me that No Cd is inserted. Befuddled.

Thanks Matt I shall do it all again and see where I get.
All that happens at the moment is I get the 'No CD in navigation' - or similar wording, and the Nav drive in the boot just spits out the CD, then sucks it back in, then this is repeated over and over with no messages on the screen.

So just to confirm Matt LOL, I used CD Clone to burn the .RAR file into a CD. Inserted this when the NAV was on and it should just self update? Nothing is happening other than the message about No CD being in the drive. The KEY CD is redundant until the software is loaded. Curious.
Close, but not quiteYou extract the entire contents of the rar file into a temporary folder
Then in clone cd, browse to that temporary folder, and it should find the 'image.cdd' file. Select that, burn it slowly (like x1) and then your disc is done
Same goes with the keycd, as the car can't 'unarchive' the rar/zip files
Thanks
Matt

I believe that vista should be able to extract it, but if not, you can get trial versions of winzip or winrar, i use winrar myself, and that can open and extract both winrar and winzip files.
If your really stuck, give me a shout and i'll post you my update discs which i used at the weekend.
Thanks

Thanks Matt.
I have downloaded WINZIP, and expanded/extracted the .RAR file. The list of files I have starts with CC93_
Is that right?
So that is my new 'software CD' ready to go right? I put it in the NAV drive when it is selected from the OBC, wait, wait, wait etc but nothing happends. Do i need to press anything?
BTW my system when 'set' is selected says it is a 3-1/20.
