Hi all,

Thinking of selling my M3, depending upon how much it is worth, but having some difficulty coming up with a fair price! I would value your opinions.

It is an 04 registered, manual M3 that has done 57,000 with full BMW warranty renewed in May 2009 for another year.

I bought it from BMW sutton coldfield in June 2007. It has always been garaged. It is a third car and therefore used relatively little although always well maintained!

Full BMW service history with 1200 service and InspectionII service done 11/08 at 54000 miles.

It has all the usual extras with satnav, TV, rear blind, electric mirrors in addition.

It came on a set of BMW 19 inch wheels. As on my previous posts, these have become quite corroded so I recently got a set of 18s - all with good tread and no kerbing and better ride! I would be keen to sell the 19s as well, 3 of which could do with a refurb. 2 of the 19s are just the rims whilst the other two have continental M3 tyres with good tread.

Interior in excellent condition. Few small stone chips of front end, but very good condition otherwise.

I have had a look at the classifieds on here & autotrader - cheapest M3 with satnav seems to be 18k.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1152365.htm - this one seems very similar albeit a 2005 car.

Thanks in advance

Jon

I recently paid 18k for a 05 SMG coupe with 39k miles, fully loaded + individual options with regard to colour & interior (cost over £50k when new). That one you posted up is a 55 plate so could be almost 18months to 2yrs newer!?I'd say yours is worth closer 15-16k?

I would say you got a seriously good deal on that (unless it's a bit of a dog), that rip of company webuyanycar.com would prob offer you 17,500 for that on an online quote and i've heard you can haggle them up a bit when they see the car.

How recently did you pay that? prices actually seem to have been coming up over the past few months...

i agree with C8LNJ on the pricing front... TBH your best bet is to go on webuyanycar.com and add a few k

If i were you i would hang onto the car for a few more months and just enyoy it knowing that the depreciation is going to be nothing like it has been in the past 6-9 months

webuyanycar.com offered me £15,310 yesterday for my immaculate, 22,000 mile '04 SMG M3 in Carbon Black with Imola Red leather.

Randomly they offered £17,090 in May! Doesn't have sat-nav or heated seats.

Nice car Jon. smile

The silver grey one is mine, and I deliberated over a price point for quite a while. Good luck with your sale. From the calls I've had so far, the BMW warranty aspect is definitely a great selling point. Maybe try yours at £16-£16.5k and see what happens. smile

Cheers
Matt

Mine -

Certainly not a dog its the best example M3 thats not been rediculously over priced that
ive seen, I bought it at the end of April.

Ive seen early teen miles 06 plate cars for sale only scratching 20k so I figures 18k for a 05 & 16k for a 04?

Prices are firming that seems for sure.

Back in Feb I got no interest privately on an 05 plate FULLY loaded SMG car with 50k, still within warranty, new PS2s all round, just had main dealer Inspection 2 etc, etc - in superb nick. I think I put it up for about 18k from memory.

Ultimately traded it for 15.5k. Back then those shoddy websites were quoting about 13k for it.

Depends how quickly you want it to sell - but I'd say you'd be lucky to find somebody willing to drop 18k on an 04 private car. 15k to 16k would probably generate better interest.

More importantly - why the sale?? There's no better car out there for this amount of money.

Cheers

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Will be moving house soon so need some cash! but would rather not sell it. it has been an absolute pleasure to own and drive and no mechanical trouble at all - unlike the wife's 2005 530d which has had a few (minor) warranty claims.

webuyanycar reckon 14k.

There are 2 contisport M3 tyres, one front, one rear on the 19inch rims so just selling the tyres may not be straight forward.

cheers

First and foremost DO NOT SELL THE 19s seperate you knock 1k off the price of the car straight away

I have got a price to trade mine in this week 04 54 car 47k manual with all the neccesary options just had insp 2 and FBMWSH, I was offered initially 14k, 16k, and then accepted 17k against a 1series

Top money but mine is a top car just has the wheels refurbed and it's in fantastic condition

I’m looking for an M3 SMG if anyone is selling. Here are the specs I’m after:

I’ve decided on an SMG coupe 55reg ideally, but would consider 04, 54 & 05 plates as well with low mileage i.e. less than 50k, but around 30k would be best. 19inch original alloys.

Exterior colour: Black, Silver Grey or Blue (Estoril, Velvet or Le Mans Blue or similar) I’m not sure about Mystic blue as it looks a little dark, but there is one local to me which I’m gonna have a look at. White is another one I would consider (but have only ever seen one and that was a convertible).

Interior colour: Imola Red, Cinnamon (or tan), Champagne or Kiwi Nappa interiors, cream looks a little too light to me. I’ve never liked black or dark interiors and just not keen on the dull grey leather. Much prefer brighter colours with some warmth.

Must have spec: Satnav (Preferably DVD based), Harman Kardon, heated memory seats.

Preferred additional spec but not a deal breaker: Bluetooth, Ipod connector, TV, tracker.

If you or anyone else you know is considering selling, then let me know and I’ll get in touch.

cheers

There is a lot of potential buyers out there that could ignore your car becuase of the wheels. I've got 18's on mine, and actually prefer the way they look and ride, however lets be honest - even from new there is a large proportion of people buying M BMWs that consider how it looks on their driveway, or in the works carpark right at the top of the list of priorities.

I looked at double-figures of cars before buying mine earlier this year. The premium that sellers appear to attach to the 19" wheels was getting on for a grand I'd guesstimate.

I could be completely wrong, however for resales sake I'd consider getting a recon on your 19s, putting a set of "OK" tyres on the two that need them, and selling your 18s separately (if you have an unmarked front one, I'd be very interested) ... Even if your car doesn't sell for appreciably more with the 19s, you may get an easier sell as the orange skinned, spiky haired ear ring buyers wont flick past it on the web.

I think i will keep the car for the time being. i would be very sad to see it go.
I also prefer the ride on the 18s but do see the appeal of the 19s! I will get the 19s reconditionned at some point.

19's still add £1k trade, no more retail, but just shows how desirable and how much easier it makes the car to sell.

I prefer the 18s and have them on mine, but I have a set of 19s shod with PS2s for when it comes time to sell.
