hi CAN ANY ONE HELP ME. I BOUGHT A M3 A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO AND THE VANOS HAS GONE,BMW WANT 2000 POUND TO FIX. HAS ANY ONE FOUND A CHEAPER SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. I AM BEING TOLD ABOUT DR VANOS, HAS ANYONE USED THIS RECON PART AND IS IT ANY GOOD,OR HAD ANY PROBLEMS ONCE FITTED. THANKS

If I was in your shoes, the route I would take woukd be to obtain a full diagnosis from an independant bmw specialist. Not only will you benefit from a cheaper hourly rate but you are less likely to suffer from a 'computer says' and an error code driven diagnosis. Not saying that all dealers are like this however large jobs like vanos, unless its covered by the warranty, are going to cost more than the original quote.

as rags says get a good indy to look at it before panicing, Where abouts are you?

I used a Dr Vanos unit on My E36 M3 and it did solve the running problems although wasn't as silent as I had hoped, but then again its 15% of the cost of a new part.

THE SYMPTON AS FOLLOWS FIRSTLY THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT LIGHT IS ON,THEN WHEN THE CAR HAS JUST BEEN STARTED UP AND IDDLEING IT SEEMS THE CAR IS MISFIRING AND WHEN TAKING OFF VERY SLUGISH. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO BOTH INDEPENDENT SPECIALIST AND BMW AND THEY BOTH CAME UP WITH THE SAME FAULT.
