Well, one week's ownership down and over 1,000km later and I'm really loving my car.

However, I only have a German language instruction book - the English one hasn't arrived yet, so can anyone just confirm that I'm oil checking correctly.

I'm checking at operating temp. Turn engine off, wait a minute or so and then checking dip stick that oil's between the two marks...I know that there's a computer check too but it's well beyond my German and I don't trust accuracy of onboard computers. Anyway, if anyone can confirm that I'm doing the right thing, it would be a weight off my mind.

Thanks, G

Yes, engine should be warm, then leave for one minute and measure.

There is no electronic dipstick on the Z4M's.

Many thanks. Seems fine then. I just wanted to check as I've spent two days at Spa. Doesn't seem to have used anything- or nothing that's noticeable on the dipstick - does that seem normal? I don't know what its oil consumption tendencies are.

Likewise, measurement above is way to go - I've done 14k with lots of hard driving in a Z4M with no change in level.

www.z4-forum.com for all queries - very knowledgeable people there and all the niggles (springs, o2 sensors etc) and fixes are all covered in numerous posts.

Gilly, another useful site for "How-To's" etc is http://www.shipkiller.com/

This site will also be a font of knowledge for other forum members. The site owner is an ace.

On another note, may I ask you a question? Last week a Lamborghini Gallardo, followed by a Nissan Skyline GTR passed my house. Extremely unusually both cars were painted Matte Black! As you frequent the Lambo forums you may know of these cars. Anything? - radar resistant paint perhaps?

Thank You for that.I try to help people out but I don't suffer fools gladly, as they say. When I see a ridiculous question that a 15 second "Google" search could answer, I naturally assume that the poster is either lazy, ignorant or both. I am on many car forums under many different names (usually "tool" or "C***"). But as I am in the fortunate position to have been able to change my cars 4 or 5 times a year since 1972 I have owned just about everything decent & can comment fairly. Especially as in 35 years, unless a car has been in warranty, I have rebuilt/repaired by myself. Perhaps I am mean - I certainly have very little money nowadays BUT I have the memories & not a little knowledge...

Thanks for that. It's always good to know reliable info sources. At least the English navigation instructions arrived this morning as I had a slightly frustrating drive back from Belgium yesterday with the nav system wanting to go via France when I wanted to use the German Autobahn.

On the Lambo front I'm afraid I don't know who that would be. If you ask on the Lambo forum someone might know - it's unusual. Don't think matte is for the faint hearted - it's neither chip nor radar resistant! Having just spent the afternoon trying to remove Spa glue flies from the front of my car, I can only begin to imagine how hard it would be on a matte finish!
Anyway, thanks again for your help.

Mike, the matt black is most likely a wrap, rather than actual paint.
