Afternoon all,

I am getting very uneven tyre wear on my E46 M3, which is especially noticeable on the two fronts. Tread is fine across the width of the tyre inner edge (slightly worn) to three quarters across.

I've had the tracking checked and everything is a should be so am wondering if anyone has any ideas?

Tyre pressures are spot on, if not very slightly over so no problems on that front.

I do drive in a rather spirited manner, so don't know if this has such a direct effect.

Get the 4 wheel alignment done (dealer or bodyshop can do it) and it will be much better. Should cost around £60 wink

Yes.

A much more in depth check should reveal all. Expect to pay a bit more than £60 but its worth it.

A colleague of mine has had this done today on his Range Rover Sport, £60 at our local bodyshop wink

What does the 4 wheel alignment do exactly ? (apart from align the 4 wheels smile)
I had the same issue. I effectively wore two out two front PS2's in 2 weeks by driving it pretty hard, heavily loaded across twisty, Spanish roads in 36 deg heat.

I assumed it was the above factors, but sounds like it's not. Quite keen not to wear any more out prematurely.

KDS at a dealer more like £200. They load the suspension with wieghts during the check, results are good if they know what they are doing. Not worth doing with badly worn tyres on or with suspension ready for some maintenance. Get all that done first.

Not sure if other garages use same technique as main dealers or not?

Someone had mentioned KDS to me and said I was looking at £160 - £220 for it.

Another chap said I need to adjust the camber as themain wear was on both outside edges, but I didn't think they were adjustable on standard set up?

Either way I'm keen not to ruin a newish set on PS2's!

I would say the same. If you drive in a 'spirited' manor on twisty roads and the outside edges are wearing quickly and providing the alignment is currently to factory spec. with no worn bushes etc. then you need more negative camber on the front.
Front Camber adjustment details can be found here: http://m3.madrussian.net/diy_camber.shtml

I thought wear on the inner edge was normal, if your getting it on the outer edge something is not right. Get it checked.

Cheers for all the replies.

Wouldn't think the bushes are worn as it has only done 19,000 miles but will get them checked out anyway.

It's due a service soon so I'll get the garage to have a play with the camber settings if they think it needs doing.

I use ETA M/Sport in Kent so they should be able to give me a fair clue.
