Could any of the M3 owners help out here?
Friend has bought E46 M3 over the weekend, Warming up lights disappear one by one as engine warms up, but the last 2 or 3 (maybe 2 ambers and 1 red or the reverse) stays on. Would this be right as i've read that, these lights on the SMG are for changing gear. His is a manual.

Normal, once the engine is warm, one amber and 2 reds will stay illuminated.

They do double as shift lights; accelerate to approx 7,000 rpm and the lights will then start to illuminate amber back from the right to the left culminating in the leftmost lights turning red to indicate the optimum shift.

I assume this is only on SMG models? My E46 manual M3 doesn't do this, it has the warming up lights dissapearing as the temp rises, but no shift light sequence.

The shift lights are SMG only.

.... and very cool they are too. I'll try and do a you tube video over the weekend if I get chance.
