holy mother of god, i've just spent the weekend getting used to the M5 and have to say it is truly ballistic.

i though it was fast on the test drive, but on familiar roads with the full 500bhp engaged it is truly exceptional.

don't know what all the fuss is about the SMG box, i find it easy to use and only slightly jerky when making slow manouvers - otherwise it's a pleasure to operate.

have been using paddle shifts with fastest setting change speed and middle setting for edc and find this best for both around town and making haste on the open road.

the kids love it too and the wife was a little sceptical at first but after seeing it in the flesh, she thinks it's total class - i have to agree.

interlagos blue with silverstone extended merino, private sale.

i'm new on here but have been reading up on previous posts and have thought long and hard about the warranty dilema and after comparing the small print of both the so called BMW warranty (actually provided by Mondial and not BMW) and the top spec luxury car warranty from Warranty Direct - I have opted for the warranty direct product. The BMW warranty has too many exclusions compared to the thoroughly comprehensive warranty direct product.

will post some pics after the car is detailed soon.

cheers.

Could you explain a little more about your findings with the warranty and how it affected your decision in purchasing the M5?

I'm interested as I have thought about the M5 in the near future but was put off by warranty scares..

Congratulations mate, you're gonna love that beast.

I'm into week three with mine and loving every minute of it.

I do however disagree very much with your warranty views.....good luck!!

Good choice, I have had mine just over a year and am still amazed at the pace of the thing.

I wasnt as brave as you and purchased mine AUC and have to say, I dont agree with you on the exclusions issue. Secondly, whilst only a couple of minor issues have gone back to the dealer they havent quibbled - not sure I would be so confident with a 3rd party.

But hey, you only need to worry if something goes wrong and why should it?

Congratulations biggrin I got mine 2 weeks ago (same colour combo as yours) and am still trying to find a piece of road where I can truly explore the limits of this amazing machine.

Agree with the others on the warranty I'm afraid.... never had good experiences with non-manufacturer backed warranties.

Enjoy biggrin

Congrats on the car.

What exclusions does the BMW one have compared to the Warranty Direct one?

I've never had a problem claiming for pretty much anything on an AUC one, had nothing but wriggling out of paying on aftermarket ones, so much so I just don't bother anymore

Sorry dude, its sitting here, I'm trying to work out the ins and outs of sending bottles by post, suggest it might be easier if I drop it off to you, or get it to you via others?

chaps

thanks for the advice on the warranty and after checking it all again it turns out i was sent the "named component" cover details rather than the "comprehensive" cover details from BMW !!

i called bmw warranty this morning and they have e-mailed me the correct document, which i've checked through, and as suggested by you guys, is more comprehensive than the warranty direct cover.

basically I bow to your greater knowledge and have truly made a "james hunt" of this one - but not to worry as the warranty direct policy was monthly I've cancelled it and I'm just of the phone to BMW warranty and have taken out the comprehensive cover with zero excess and emergency assistance.

PHEW - that was a close one and once again the pistonheaders have come good with invaluable info and advice.

thanks again.http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/2.gifhttp://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/6.gif
