I'm after some advise, guys. I assume M6 is limited to 155mph

Would de-limiting void extended manufacture warranty? If it would what are the chances BMW mechanics find out that the car is delimited? Anyone has had similar experience before?

Also, whom I can use to remove the speed limiter?

Thx

I can think of several ways bmw did an M Power package which raised the vmax to 300 kph cost about £2k including driver training at nurburing warranty still was valid
Dms automotive will remap your car remove any limits and give you an 45 bhp if you believe it cost £>2k

Hartge did a vmax bypass I think it plugged into the ecu cost £2k +

The last 2 void the warranty

Where are you going to take advantage of the higher top speed?

What speed are the tyres good for?

Good man.

Would a BMW specialist be able to do it? They normally have the kit to program the key etc to personalise your settings.

For me - autobahns, 'Ring & some track days here. I used to drive quite a lot on autobahns at >250kph before.

It does sound completely stupid for me to have 500bhp car with 155mph limit on it... bearing in mind M6 needs just 13 seconds to reach 200 kph & I expect just around 30 sec to reach 250 kph limit.

Tyres - not sure about Contis however Michelin PS2 (which some M6 have as standard) are deffo good for 200mph. Merc used them for SLR, Porsche uses them for their GT2 & GT3. Yeap, Bugatti needs special tyres to be good for 400 kph but you don't need to be that special to drive 300 kph.

I drove 300kph+ on cheaper Goodyear Eagle F1s with no probs

TBH this 155mph limit can really put me off buying M6 as I want the car to have a warranty. Have to think seriously about it now

I could be wrong here but I believe BMW did (do) sell the M6 delimited to people that have a racing license. There is a video of Hans Stuck going 190 mph in what I assume is an otherwise standard car.

Just an observation of someone who has driven a few M cars at VMAX. The factory set limiter for M cars is not set at 155 but tends to be set at 164GPS (clock speed of of 168/170).

This holds true for various E39 & E60 M5s, E46 M3s and the M6 I've been in.

I'd be minded to leave the limiter tbh.

Ditto. Mine stopped at a GPS 162mph, or 260kph.

I think you will find that e-maps can do this at a fraction of the cost of DMS

The standard brakes are great, I found that out on my E39 M5 on the autobahn this year at 140mph. Its just sustained usage they have a problem with.
