Joining the fold.... M5
Discussion
I'm sitting in work contantly checking the clock and can't consentrate on anything. The reason for this.... I pick up my e39 M5 tonight!
I don't think I've ever been so excited about getting a car, and at my age that's saying something. It's been a fairly long search for the right car (within my budget), the right spec, proper FSH and that drives like I'd expect. But I eventually found one:
2001
Le Mans Blue
FBMWSH
Satnav
No wood
2 previous owners
Original unmarked alloys
Final hurdle was my local Indy giving it the once over this morning, which it passed with flying colours (apart from a couple of non urgent advisories; rear diff seals and exhaust manifold brackets).
Sorry, just had to tell someone.
Will post some pics asap.

What a car!
Ok, so I've only had it for a few hours and less than 100 miles, but it is truly amazing. Where do I start? It's got 108k miles and is over 8 years old but it feels as tight as a drum, has no squeaks or rattles and drives perfectly.
I haven't yet pushed it properly as I've been driving a 330d auto for more than a year and I feel I'm a little rusty with the clutch/gear timing. Give it few days and I'm sure I'll be back upto speed.
So many toys in it aswell - enough to keep me amused for sure.
On a couple of straights on the way home I let it go to 6k in 2,3 and a fair way in 4th - what a noise. I thought my old scooby sounded sweet but this is in a whole new league. The higher up the rev range the better the engine note!
A couple of questions for you if you don't mind...
The coolant and brake fluid could both do with changing soon - any idea of cost?
Can anyone recommend somewhere to get an updated Satnav disk?
How the hell do I get this silly grin off my face?

PS - photos will follow this weekend after it's had a proper clean.
Edited for over excited inaccuracy

Brake fluid is about £35 changed, coolant cheaper than that IIRC.

Nice one; best car in the world, still, 6 years after the last one was manufactured.
Same mileage as mine, btw.
Have you removed the limiter?
Let me know when you have and my chauffeur will pop along and demonstrate the reality of illicit shcnell.
Is it only MD that can remove the limiter or is it the same bit of electric wizardry that controls the key fob memory etc that can do it?Same mileage as mine, btw.

So, do you own an M6 and an M5 out of interest derestrictor?

24 hours in and it's just getting better and better. I had the chance to release a few horses today.... the noise, the power, the grip, it's just so intoxicating.
I've done over 100 miles today and haven't touched the stereo, infact, the windows have been open just so I can fully enjoy that V8!
This is all the car I've ever wanted.
Neil: Thanks for the info. The satnav thing seems far too complicated for me, I think I'll have to go down the 'get a computer wizardry chap to sort it out' route

I don't think the limiter will be coming off any time soon. Lets face it, here in the south east you've got two hopes of a) getting anywhere quiet enough to do that speed and b)getting away with a portion of hoonage without getting a tax request through the post.
