I didn't think there was an Evo convertible. have a look at this http://www.bmwmregistry.com/model_faq.php?id=8

I think the Evo 1's were all 1987 cars and there for too early for the convertibles

Evo 2's and 3'd have a numbered plaque in the centre console also have the cam cover painted white with the M stripes.

Evo 3's again have the plaque in the centre console.

It might be that your car has the later, more powerful engine is in 1990/1991?.

only the evo sports were 2.5,

It might be worth checking what the log book says compared to an evo sport.

I would suspect at some point someone has replaced the original engine or rebuilt it to 2.5 spec

You could always PM one of us your chassis number, Im sure we can get it checked out for you but Andy is correct with his time lines.....with yours being a very late one it will have the same engine as an Evo but will have a cat (late spec 215bhp).

EIII's do not have a numbered plaque, numbered plaques were only fitted to Evo II's, Cecotto's/Ravaglia's and Tour De Course (unique French special).

EIII plaque

EIII also had a standards black cam cover, but had red HTleads.

You can check the front crank pully to see if it is a 2.5.

2.5 crank has a bolt holding the front pully on the 2.3 has a nut
