Unfortunately the time has come to replace my rears as I have just scraped through the mot with them, I currently have Dunlop sp sport on the rear and they seem ok, Any recommendations on the cheapest place and the best tyres to go for would be very gratefully received, Also the front tyres appear to be the originals and they are runflats / non runflats on the rear, is this a legal/ safe combination.

Many thanks in advance
Ian.

Cheapest place - depends where you live?
Best tyre - There are a few to suggest depending on budget (PS2's get my vote)
M cars should not run runflats, and BMW don't supply them with them.

i go for cheap on the back, best on the front.

i run nexen n3000's on the rear (115 quid each fitted) and mich pilot sports on the front.

That way i can have lots of drifting fun without worrying about cost. Always get good tyres onthe front though for good turn in and braking grip.

The nexens have only covered a couple of thousand miiles but they look ok and seem fine. I know a guy who does pro drifitng and he says they use them, not only because cheap but they take the heat well.

Before that i had falken fk452's and they were very good (about 145 quid each fitted).

choice is up to you. if money no object - go with what manufactur fits as standard. after all, they do spend a lot of time and money researching and choosing. Michelin's all round in the case of the M5.

Hi Mr Sagman, PM me if you want cheap tyres. I can supply more or less anything and I don't have running costs so the saving is passed onto you.

I had worn Dunlops on my E39 M5 also, i spent about 2 weeks reading everything i could on different sites & tyre tests etc & came to the conclusion that the best tyre for the car was the Goodyear eagle asymmetric. I got prices on line from Tyretraders,Camskill,MY tyres & then started phoning around local places trying to beat them down & get a deal. All were stupid prices except my local Formula One tyre depot. From memory £660 for x4 fitted, make sure they are the Asymmetric F1's. The difference between these tyres & the old worn Dunlops is night & day, before it used to tramline a bit ,follow the ruts in the road & felt like the tracking was out or worn bushes but that has all dissapeared with the new tyres.
