Quick question - Should my gear nob be lit

Driving back home in my Z4MC late last and out of the corner of my eye I thought that is strange.. i thought my gear nob used to be lit?

Am i going mad or should it be lit white?

Mine`s not lit and never has been!

The gear knob on my Z4MC was always lit...red to match the rest of the interior.

confirmed......should be lit red, although some Z4M's have been changed for short throw knobs whick look the same but IIRC these are not lit

No need for dealers if its anything like my e46 m3, just pull the gaiter up and you'll find almost definitely the wire to the knob has broken. I just reconnected mine and has worked fine ever since.

Isn't it lit via a light from the roof line where the interior lights are located?

No, the gearstick has a light in as well. (Did the Z4 have the interior 'ambient light' ?)
