Hey guys, I keep on hearing about an update for the SMG that enables smoother, but just as quick changes?

Anyone know about this and if any BMW dealer can do?

Cheers

I think any BMW dealership should be able to do it.

Apparently if your car only changes down into 1st on its own when you stop, you have the newest update (if it changes down into first while you are moving, you have an older software version).

I think mine is the former. I had the SMG fluid changed a month ago, would they have updated the software then?

There are updates, however they don't normally apply them without there is a problem that you are complaining about. What madel have you got, E36 or 46?

I've got an E46, I have heard the update doesn't make it as crashy. I read it on Mtorque but obviously cannot find it now!

It might not be entirely relevant to you but here goes:

I've had a software update on my SSG (Non-M SMG) 325ci from an indy, only cost £70 IIRC

He said he updated the gearbox AND ENGINE software aswell, which i found surprising, maybe comes as a package?

But anywhoo noticable differences are, quicker 1st-2nd gear change, it doesnt jerk forward from 3rd-2nd under braking any more, and a general improvement on smoothness, haven't noticed any improvement engine wise, still same operation, consumption etc.
