Yup - had it on my drive home after picking up the car. I was bricking it.

The solution is to close your bonnet properly tongue out

That said - it could well be the sensors in the bonnet catches which haven't quite closed properly when you closed your bonnet.

For me, I was used to the weight of the standard e46 steel bonnet closing itself with its weight - the M3 bonnet is aluminium and doesn't quite fall down as heavily.

Mines does this semi regularily. I've had it do it before when I have been in the middle of a gear change and swapping between auto and manual at exactly the same time. It will continue to flash until the car becomes stationary again.

Mine also does it nearly everytime when the the car goes down one incline I have found, but it must be something to do with it selecting first whilst free rolling down a hill.

Had the same problem but mine failed at some traffic lights( and I was the front car) the car would not select any gear at all( its a smg) so I had to call the man out, the switch which is under the right bonnet catch had fell off, it cost £24 to have a new one fitted at the local dealer.

Heh, me too. I had an e46 330 before (which have steel bonnets) so had become used to the bonnet closing itself properly under its own weight. e46 M3 one is aluminium, so you have to force it down a little harder as gravity isn't on your side quite as much.

Never had a problem since, so was me just being a bit dippy.
