What do you think is a fair price for this e39 M5?

Been looking for an M5 for a while and this one ticks a lot of boxes for me.
Just wondering what would be a fair price to pay for it?

I'm surprised how cheap M5's have become, I guess it due to running costs.
As a guide to price this one, a year older but with similar millage was advertised for £7.5k so I expect sold for nearer £7k?

Not sure I'd want to pay £11.5k for an M5 with over 100,000 miles on it.
There's a few much lower millage cars on the classifieds for similar money.
With regards to the exhaust and wheels, Although you might like them I wouldn't say they add any value to the car and maybe even put a number of buyers off.

I agree, to the average buyer they don't really add value, however, as this is my plan anyway it could save me money in the long run. 1k exhaust, 1.5k alloys. That puts it (in my eyes) at 9k.There's a few much lower millage cars on the classifieds for similar money.

If it looks like it could be for you. I would go and have a look before bidding with a view to buying and taking it away there and then.
If you like it and everything stacks up with the history etc, tell him you have money with you and would be happy to agree a deal.
This could potentaily save him the hassle of someone else winning the auction and messing him around afterwards, and you the risk of losing the car in the last few seconds of the auction.
If he does not want to end the auction early at least you can go home and bid with confidence.

I bought a facelift M5 in July after looking at 5 so called good condition ones, they all look shiney in the pic's but there are a lot of dogs about. Even a 2 owner 70k mile one i travelled 400 mile trip it was not upto scratch. You will always get the odd good deal/bargain but in the main you have to pay good money for a nice M5 that you will have no problem selling on. A lot of the cheaper ones tend to have poor spec,dodgy interior colours,no sat nav etc. You would not believe the cars i saw with rust around the petrol flap & on the boot, looks great when you show the car off to friends with lovely rust patches !!!!!!

I paid £8k for my facelift 2001 Y last month. Le Mans blue, 10months tax, 108k, FBMWSH - still 4 green lights, mint refurbed wheels, plain black leather interior(don't really like the coloured inserts), SATNAV, heated electric seats etc. It does need a bonnet respray because of the stone chips (been quoted approx £400).
Deciding factor for me was that the former owner (5 years) was a friend of the service manager at the main dealer - I managed to speak to him (the service manager) and talk through the history... the car had wanted for nothing.
I also got PMW in Chelmsford to do a pre-purchase inspection which it passed with just a couple of insignificant advisories.
With regard to the advert above where he claims "mid to late 30's on a run" - utter garbage. I can just get about 27 on an extended free run. Expect very low 20's for normal (non hoon) driving.
