I'm going to have a bit of a moan.

I'm sure it's not just me but when I'm in or around my car, I seem to get a fair amount of unwanted attention.

I knew owning an M3 would make it stand out on the road and I expected a fair bit of playful baiting but it's got to the point where I'm not enjoying driving it because it feels down right hostile.

I purposely bought a fairly discreet colour and removed the M3 badge from the back (I know its still obvious its an M3 because of the exhausts.)

So far I've had an Impreza owner challenge me to a race at a petrol station, then called a pussy when I told him I had nothing to prove.

I've had people comment when I park it, everything from "posh tt" to "don't park that here if you want it to still be here when you get back."

I've had it keyed, I've had 2 tires slashed on different occasions and I've lost count of the number of times people have driven inches from my bumper or tried racing me at roundabouts and traffic lights.

As I said, I'm sure its not just me who receives this treatment but at the moment I'm on the verge of part exchanging it.

What insidence have you had to deal with as an M3 owner?

Haven't really has anything - have enjoyed a few spirited drives along the way with everything from Astons to a seriously quick Nova GTE (which was somewhat embarassing) but never had any disparaging remarks thrown my way.

One keying incident but they did four cars in a row so was not singled out in any way.

Given the relative ubiquity of the E46 M3 (I think far more were sold than the E36 variant) I'm surprised you've had such grief in a city as cosmopolitan as Manchester.

Up here they are literally everywhere and as such, rarely get given a second glance

Never had any problems in London. Doesn't get a notice in Chelsea where I live. Astons are more common than Fords where I live though.

Move or start shopping and filling up in a better neighborhood.
It's not the car, it the area.

Other than the usual tailgating I have had no real issues (London based again), once Im pretty sure I got the coffee-beans signal from a pizza delivery boy coming towards me - this was in an E46 Estoril Coupe with the very bling 19's so not exactly a subtle car...

Gone back to an E36 again very recently so will see how that goes but I understand your concerns - a real shame. (GP - your old car btw, so im told)

My area is pretty nice luckily, it tends to have happend when I've been elsewhere. Tyre slashed at Salford Precinct (not the nicest of areas) once when left in works car park over night and keyed when parked in the city centre.

I guess I've been unlucky but it's not nice having to pay out everytime someone gets bored and decides its a good idea to damage someone elses property.

The only comments I've had from strangers are nice ones. (And M3's aren't that common round my neck of the woods)

M3s are ten-a-penny around here in Surrey, but even so I do seem to get tailed quite closely quite often and there are a few people who try to race you.

That said, I've had my run ins with Astons and similar which has been fun, but also with quick Civic Type Rs that really do seem to be rather brisk when driven hard. wink

It does seem to be a problem in manchester, my mate has an S3 up there and its an absolute idiot magnet.

I've had similar stuff with my M3, lots of evos and subarus out trying to prove something. Most of the time I dont care but the guy whose evo dumped its guts out the exhaust pipe (and consequently all over my car) as he floored it past me was annoying.

Never had anything other than positive comments in mine, even when in Manchester. I do wonder if it's something to do with the driver, rather than the car.
