After 9,000 miles and 3 months I am completely bowled over by the M3. It has totally surpassed my extpectations in virtually every way.

However, a couple of niggles have started to occur in the last couple of weeks.

1) When really breaking heavily from speed and trying to heel toe into 2nd, the gearbox is occasionally noncompliant. The gear will not go in. This happened 3 times when I was a the 'ring on Monday.

2) The car has cut out when pulling away from traffic lights. This has occured twice now. The engine/oil was up to tmperature and I had ben driving for at least an hour on both occasions. I pressed the start button but the engine would not catch until around the 3rd time of asking and this only occured when pressing the accelerater.

I have checked the iDrive and no faults have been detected. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Pete

Are you sure the gearbox one has just started to occur or its just inherent?

I've often struggled to get it into 3rd coming from second when accelerating hard. I'd just assumed this was just me not used to the box.

No engine stoppping issues here, not heard of anyone with the issue either on the forums I've looked at.

Second does normally need a hefty yank (oi, you in the back) to engage and I have found that you cannot rush the gerbox at all. Maybe I rushed the changes too much? It just felt as though the lever would come off in my hand if I went for 2nd any harder!

My old manual E46 was very hard to get into second, particularly when cold. It's the same gearbox, I think.

My Aston gearbox is remarkably similar.

This occured on my 4th lap of the 'ring so the gearbox was well warmed up. I'll see if it occurs again when I'm back there in November.

Thanks for the responses.

I had no problems at Bedford earlier this year; I've not found it to be an issue, although I do have an issue with a noisy M-diff, which I will be going to the stealers to change the fluids and generally take a look around..but it stood up well otherwise to my ham-fisted driving
