Im considering the Z4m in either coupe or roadster form as they seem a lot of car for the money can anyone tell me what i should look out for when looking at them, i realise they are still relatively newish cars so should still be in good nick.

Do they suffer from broken rear springs like the M3? has anyone driven both the coupe and roadster how do they stack up against one another? Judging by the classifieds the coupes seem slightly stronger money. Really fancy imola red if i went for one. Is the sat nav etc a must for these models like in the Boxster cars were fetching around 1k more just because of the sat nav. Any general advice is most welcome thumbup

They had a red coupe at Solihull BMW a couple of weeks ago, it's in good condition - I had a good poke around it. I nearly bought it but I had a silver one off them instead.

Website says it's still for sale.

No nav.

Fantastic cars. I can't comment on the roadster as I've never tried one.

Make sure whichever you look at has the 1200 miles service - they change the type of oil and if it has missed that it is worth literally thousands less !!

Any in the BMW AUC scheme should be OK but will obviously cost more.

Sat Nav seems very, very common in the coupe but decidedly less important in the Roadster. Roadster needs minimum of heated seats and wind deflector - both were options.

Upgraded stereo is IMO very good but again, for Roadster standard one is OK as car being used slightly differently smile

PDC useful but required more for front than rear where vision is quite good - unlike the front corners biggrin

Missus brought a 12 month old 2008 2.0 Z4 roadster will the full m-sport pack with only 1500 miles on the clock. We did 12,000 miles in 6 months of ownership and only lost £1200 in value when it was px'd against a Freelander!

In the short time that we had it there were no problems but it was really uncomfortable on uk roads with the ultra stiff suspension which was not helped being on 18 inch run-flats, however, when in the alps the car came to life and when pushing on through the twisties it was the only time the car made sense.

I wouldn't recommend the 2.0 to anyone but I imagine the 3.0 and proper M-Series ones go rather well!

Seems that i will get more car for my money if i go for the roadster its just the possible hairdresser image thats worrying me lol, in saying that i can imagine it sounds amazing with the roof off and i do quite miss open top driving. The CSL wheels look fantastic on these cars also, were they a straight forward swap?

I have an Imola Coupe with the CSLs and they swap right over. Looks amazing when compared with the standard car.

Yep, CSL's go straight on apparantly.

And I went for the roadster as its more flexible... and im sorry, blasting through the alps with the roof down, over passes and through tunnels i never once wished i'd gone for the coupe..

and hey, i had it up to 160 on the Autobahn with the roof down and it was fine..

cough cough, mines forsale;) dunno about the roadster i never tryed one, the extra boot space and refinement made me lean towards the Coupe (and its much better looking)

I would say get a new car still under warranty then you've got nothing to worry about, though i have seen posts for broken springs and lambda issues...

I thought the roadster was supposed to be more refined than the coupe? Mainly due to softer AR bars and more relaxed setup?

I get loads of abuse for having a hairdressers car biggrin ... but ... put the roof down, go for a blast and hear that straight six ... and you wouldn't give a stuff about any 'abuse' ... I don't !! smile

My understanding is the ride is 'softer' on the roadster - which is good as I personally wouldn't want it firmer ... it seems just right as it is. Not overly firm but certainly not soft !

Oh, and just to reiterate - the sound with the roof down is absolutely stunning and a genuine risk to your driving licence biggrin

I quite fancy a Noble one day - would you mind telling me why you are selling yours? How did you find it?

Those are pretty much the reasons I went for the Coupe too. IMHO it is a better looking car, and much more practical. We did the best part of 3,000 miles in mine over summer down through France and Italy on holiday, and there's no way we'd have fitted a fortnight's gubbins in the drop top.

Loving my imola M Coupe, have had it about 2 months now. Never even looked at the roadster TBH, just not my type of car. Mine's pretty much exactly the same as Wrighty's car. Logic 7 a must.

I did the same (France, Belgium, Italy, Monte Carlo) and fit 2 weeks worth of stuff for us both in the boot of the Roadster...

It actually seemed to help the handling for some spirited driving wink

and I found it incredibly comfortable for the long drive from the alps, through germany to Belgium in a single day that took about 17 hours because of..
