I'm looking to buy the GruppeM intake and reading around i've seen several people mention heatsoak but others that say it wont really suffer from it. Does anyone have the GruppeM induction kit and lives somewhere with a hot and dry climate?

Here in Cyprus temperature in the summer can soar up to 40+ degrees in the shade so i want to be sure that the hot weather wont affect the car that much before i buy the kit.

Can anyone help?

Thanks! smile

Heat soak is usually relating to the amount of heat that the intake gets from the under-bonnet temperature, not the ambient temperature.

It won't matter what the ambient temperature is as any intake-standard or aftermarket) will still be sucking in air at the same temp.

What you've got to be careful of is how much extra heat is absorbed by an aftermarket intake if it doesn't get 100% of it's air from outside of the engine bay - i.e. if the shroud around the filter is not completely sealed you will get the heat from the engine bay being sucked in too!

That's exactly my point. The stock airbox is sealed and only gets air from a small opening through that snorkel behind the grille and the side. The GruppeM kit isnt sealed and the ends are open to the engine bay. That's why i asked if anyone here already owns one and can give me some actual hands-on feedback.

Without a shield and a fresh air feed the pickup in first will be terrible. I noticed that in my M3, it felt like a 318i until it was up to about 30mph and cold air was sucked in. You need a shield + cold air feed without doubt.

Still conflicted though.. Some people claim they've had no issues at all and some say that they wont touch it because of the potential of heatsoak.

If people are saying it has issues I would look elsewhere.
