Good morning All.

I went to look at a 51 plate E39 M5 yesturday. The car is great except when backing off the throttle from about 40mph there is a wobble / vibration that can be felt though the car.

Its recently had two new rear tyres and all 4 wheels have had the tracking done.

There are no other knocks or vibrations at any other time. Only when your backing off.

has anyone experianced this before and does anyone have any idea on what sort of reduction to negociate(sp) on the price.

any ideas very welcome

Cheers

Drivetrain; diff or 'box mounts, that sort of area.

Not fatal but be prepared to renew bits that boing, inevitable given the forces under consideration.

Might be worth looking around at other cars unless this one is very attractive on price..

Or if the seller is willing to let a good local independant look at the problem before sale..

Quite simply get the car onto a ramp, grab a torch and check out all of the dampers, the drive shaft, all the steering and suspension parts and then negotiate the price down until you are a happy customer.

Get it up on a ramp.
If you're not experienced /qualified pay the dough to someone who is.
You'll not regret it.

I noticed this on mine the other day.

A quick check of tyre pressures and pumped up one of the rear tyres which had gone down to 30psi and no more vibration. smile
