Shame it's only 350bhp, even the most basic remaps have those engines putting out 360 with no real worries.

So one imagines that a basic remap will therefore see comfortably over 400bhp, which is nuttier than squirrel st nuts

0-60 in 5.5 secs......a little disappointing. Shows how lardy modern cars are!

I love the idea of this car and can't wait to see it in production. I also echo the comments of Great Pretender in saying that that engine should see very nice gains from a simple remap.

Surely BMW wont want to make this car perform better/faster than the current M3, which is why i'm not surprised to see a 5.5 0-60 time. Have they geared it differently or is this car surprisingly heavy.

I thought that BMW had suffered a disproportionate amount of failures on the twin turbo set up of the *35i? Hence the different configuration for the M1? I would think these failures would only be made worse by increasing boost pressure. As standard the M1 will blow harder in order to increase power but BMW will have built more in reserve. I`m liking the sound of this car.

Except the M version isn't going to have one of those engines, it's going to get a twin-turbo version of the single twin-scroll turbo N55 that's now going to be fitted to the 135i from next month.

The test mule sounds quite nice in this spy vid during recent winter testing biggrin

it's slower than an E46 M3 and hardly quicker than a 135i. Odd decision.

Yet more dilution of the M badge IMO.

If they're going to make it they should make it properly quick.

Hopefully it'll look a touch like the tii concept that was shown previously, maybe even call it that too.

The current 135i regularly does 4.8 seconds to 60, just look at all the video reviews online. The official figures are much higher I guess so it doesn't look to be performing on a par with the current M3. The 350bhp will be more like 4.5 secs, especially if it's lighter.

I test one and it's much quicker than my M3 in a straight line (stripped out E36 M3 Evo). Just lacks the character.

I think you are being overoptimistic with those acceleration figures. Are you American?

It will be interesting to see what happens with this as reports are circualting that the "new" 135i with the N55 is actually going to be down on power compaired to the N54 cars..

While their published power figures remain the same i'll be interested to see them on a dyno back to back.

Yes, I suspect there might be a bigger performance difference between the N55 135i and the N55TT M1 (or 1M or whatever it will be called) as the N54 135i was clearly underated in reality.
