Afternoon all,

I've been perusing the M3 ads and I hadn't realised that you can now get them from about 9 grand or so. I realise most of the sub 10k ones are going to be a bag of spanners, but does anyone know how much you should expect to pay for an honest (but likely fairly old/high mileage) M3? Would 11/12k secure a decent one? Some look OK in the ads, but just wondering if anyone's got any relatively recent first-hand experience.

Also, I'm 24 in a few months. And the difference between 24 + 3 years NCB and 25 and 4 years NCB is absolutely mindblowing. I've added parents etc., but most companies want well over £2,400 if I were to buy one this summer at 24+3.

Will someone like Flux have a go at beating that, considering I've had a decent amount of experience in a 3.0 Z4 and an RX-8?

Cheers for any help!

Try Flux or any of the specialists.

Alternatively, just hang on a year!

I had one at 24...£1200 with 4 years NCB, £500 excess though. That was Bell and the car was valued at £28k

If I could get anywhere near that, I'd have one in a heartbeat! I can get it down to £1,900 or so, but only by having a £1,000 excess! Might be a job for the specialists.

A plan who used to sponsor the forums used to be the best I could find for E36 M3 insurance so they might be worth trying.

I was 24 when I got mine last year, insurance was £1300 including my at the time 22 year old girlfriend. Hopefully it'll be a bit cheaper this time round.

I was 25 when I got mine. 3yr no claims, no points and around £1k with Bell.

If you've been driving fairly quick cars for a few years, try a broker like A-Plan/Greenlight. I will be going with one of them upon renewal.

I shop around religiously every insurance renewal and Elephant have been cheaper than all by a mile. The first company that I have renewed with three years on the bounce.

Elephant is who I'm currently with for the Z4. The price hike for the M3 was absolutely incredible, though.

Matt, I don't know how to (or if you can!) PM on Pistonheads. Is your email just matt@adrianflux.co.uk ?

have you tried kwik fit?
to combat the £1000 excess worry, you can take out an "excess insurance" they do for about £50 which will cover the £1000 if you need to claim

I'm 28 with 5 yrs NCB and my insurance is £750 with A plan. Unlimited miles and a sensible excess.

If you can do a limited mileage policy that may also reduce the premium (did this on my revious S2000).

I was getting STUPID quotes when I was 24 with 3yrs NC of £3k+. I got the E46 M3 when I was 26 with 4yrs NCB m id way through my S2000 policy. Works out to be about £1250. It should drop some more in June when I'll have 5yrs NCB! I'm with Elephant and they are the cheapest for me. I think my excess is £750 or so?

Living in Surrey.
